After my thread last night and today, for those of you who took part, do you think that the impressions that others have of you are fair? Do you think that they reflect you as a person/people and did some people surprise you with how much they read into your posts?
Was it a positive or negative experience for you?

I wasn't sure whether to be proud or offended!!

7 people said very similar things in their messages and were positive.
1 was very different and not so positive
I've been making an effort lately to talk to or interact with different people on the forums so it was nice to have messages from those I'd not actually chatted to before.
I realised that after years of being on fab there are several names I know yet have never chatted to. Hoping to change that and your thread helped a lot. |

Hmm a mixture I would say, only one person messaged me first. Which kind of to be expected since I'm not here that much anymore.
One message was nice to reconnect with someone I haven't spoken to in a while. And one person made a very accurate observation and it was lovely to see someone had noticed it.

I'd like to say it was generally a pretty accurate reflection of who I am. I've not yet got around to opening them all because I'm an awful person.
I was definitely surprised by how much could be read into a thread I did over two years ago that I'd forgotten about to be honest. For me something that was harmless lockdown boredom curing was... not quite seen that way by another. A dear friend describes it as the NT/ND gap and I think there's some truth to that.
Bias, whether confirmation or otherwise has been bandied about quite a bit recently. Fairly but yes, definitely on the up usage wise. I didn't quite realise a) how much I could experience it and b) how much others could.
I'd say it was positive regardless of what was said - I welcome different views, it's a good learning tool for me. An interesting little exercise. Am I going to change who I am? Fuck no.
I will, however, try and be more mindful of people. Everyone has their own things going on and sometimes that empathy gap can be bridged. Might as well try, anyway! |
