Think this is a hand-down from when Hull had it's own telephone company, Kingston Telecom (Think that was what it was called), so doesn't surprise me there's only one internet supplier.

Thought so. Anyway, getting back to your question, I have been with Virgin for over ten years. Never had any complaint with anything at three addresses (two cabled and this one via phone line), so I suppose I would recommend them....

The phone line broadband can have reduced bandwidth at times, but the optical fibre cable version is the fastest anywhere.

virgin are great .. free set top box with both on demand and catch up tv services. They replace broken remotes for free and update your card when needed for free. The internet - ive never had a problem with connection or speed. Occasionally ill have to turn the router on and off but this is once every 2-3 months

Ive had Virgin broadband and BT, both very good. Unlike Talk talk who told me that my microwave was interfearing with the signal so not to use it

in the night garden

My internets come from virgin tubes.

They can some times get clogged up with my lolcats as I download a lot but generally good tubes.

Virgin if you are in a cable area, if not Plusnet. Plusnet gives best service but not as fast so take your choice.

Plusnet is recommended by which.

It's a little known fact but Plusnet are owned by BT. They just don't bother telling anyone that. Supposed to be better service than BT and better value too.

120mb Virgin connection here, no complaints whatsoever, if anything, it often exceeds those speeds.

Rarely use their CS as nothing ever goes wrong with it...if it does I bypass their 1st line support and go straight to the UK

I'm on their 60mb package. If I'm wireless I average about 45mb (depending what room I'm in). My main pc is wired though and frequently see speeds of 62mb and above.
