I read a quite sad artlicle of how an argentinian voice over and dubbing actor lost their job to artificial intelligence.
He was looking forward to several projects, in one of the projects, he was hired to dub in spanish for youtube channel with millions of millions of subscribers.
He went on a break and he looked at that spanish utube channel and they had uploaded a video and he was schocked when he played it.
He tought it was strange because they hadnt called him to record it yet, he said to the reporter who interviewed him.
The voice was generated by artificial intelligence.
He emailed the company and they said that they didnt need his service.
He had worked as a dubber for 18 years and he was worried for the future in the work front he said.
What do you think of it, is artificial intelligence replacing people? I think it does, but the videos that you hear doesnt sound human.
Have you also heard that machine voice? It doesnt have any feelings or notations and talks in one go. |

I really don't like the AI voices.
I think we're gradually moving towards a situation where it's going to be difficult to understand what reality is and we're going to be able to trust even less what we're presented with via all forms of media |

Its only a matter of time first money will go replaced by cards and phones the reason they want it to go is so they can track your every movement, next will be any skills you have as a driver all cars will be electric and remotely operated speed limits adhered to and queues massive queues to charge said automatic vehicles but of course no fossil fuels and no driving test required just jump in and go from A to B  |

Pwc predicts about 30% of jobs will be automatable (but not necessarily yet automated) in a decade or so:

If you've followed or fiddled with AI at all you can see the potential for it to do so pretty soon in lots of areas. How long before people just use midjourney instead of paying a graphic designer or cover artist? How long before chatgpt is writing most emails and doing basic admin tasks? How long before it becomes good enough to influence or drive strategy? Legal advice? It can pass the US bar exam rather well. Programming? It's not far off average now.
Pretty soon we'll find out whether that means we get more done with less and all get richer, or that so many people will be out of jobs we have to fundamentally change our economic model. It's no coincidence that some leaders in the field of AI are also seriously looking in to things like universal basic income. |

Actually, in a bit of a reversal from what we always assumed, it looks like the more intelligent and more creative pursuits are the easier ones to replace. I used to think that AI that was more intelligent than us was almost impossibly far off. Now I'm not so sure.
More worryingly, aligning AI's goals to our goals has proven to be very difficult (search "AI alignment problem") and AI can be very intelligent without either having end goals that look sensible to us at all, or even being self aware (AI orthogonality). |

He's not wrong. He's scarily right. The reason why technological advancements in the past that brought about revolutions in the way we work was because their negative disruptive nature of making humans obsolete or less needed was restricted mainly to manual labour.
AI is gunning directly for white collar jobs. White collar jobs that are better paying that blue collar ones. You can't just tell vast swathes of white collar middle class people to just "go learn a trade and go back to doing working class manual labour" and expect them to just swallow this bitter pill of regressing in their career prospects both in terms of pay and also ease of earning said pay. If politicians think that the populist backlash from the so-called working class left behinds is bad, they've seen nothing yet. |

It's well known that the music industry is shitting broken glass about AI, as all those really lucrative rights to songs featuring original artists (Elvis, The Beatles, Rolling Stones, etc) are at risk of becoming almost worthless, when AI can generate flawless imitations of the vocals for pretty much nothing. |

Did anyone see the video of the AI that collapsed, it was set to work a repetitive job and it decided that wasn’t worth it so it apparently deactivated itself?
I think it worked for about 15 mins before it decided to deactivate or something |

It is regressing because tradie/blue collar jobs are not paid as well or valued as much by society thanks to the whole idea about pushing economic and education directions towards a digital/knowledge/services-based pattern. I agree that it's more satisfying to do a job that actually involves you being physically productive in doing/accomplishing something as opposed to just typing away behind a desk as a white collar desk monkey, but our view is still the minority in countries like the UK who make a fetish of "valuing higher education" for cynical political ends.
So if society continues with its current mindset about dividing the nature of work by class and being snobbish about it, it will be seen as a downgrade to tell graduates that "sorry, AI can do your job now, sucks to be you putting so much time and money into your higher education because we made it impossible to get a decent paying job without one, now go pick up a trowel or go drive a truck". It's the same mentality behind that trope about "forriners taking our jerbs", you don't see those people being outraged by "forriners" taking up manual labour/blue collar work though do you? |

Humans are the dominant species on earth due to our intelligence.
Once AI overtakes us they will be dominant and will produce machines, weapons , toxins that we will know nothing about.
It's an unregulated industry. There are more controls around selling a sandwich than around AI.

I disagree not all trade jobs are low paid if you specialise you can earn much more than white collar workers, gas engineers for starters phenomenal money to be earnt i know a gas engineer who won't get out of bed for less than £2000 a job, its much easier to target white collar workers where AI is concerned thats why they would be first to go |

That is unfortunately the sad reality that we all be facing in a future that probably is not that far away .
Once i hear an interview that Elon Musk give where he said that the solution to this problem would be created some type of universal payment to everyone.
I know he is loved by many like many other well know businesses persons that they are so interested in pursuing this almost Cyborg agenda , but myself i don't like any of them from Elon Musk to Bill Gate .

Technology has replaced people for centuries. The research shows that as jobs are replaced the work that people do changes - it is very rare for people to not be able to work at all after a technology shift has occurred.
The people who do suffer tend to be those who have the least skills and are unable/unwilling to adapt. |

The first option (AI will evolve...) I'm sure. It's not where AI is now that I find concerning, it's how fast its capabilities have changed in the last few years. At this rate, I'd expect AI narration to be indistinguishable from human in a few more years. |

Oh i believe it could evolve but with so many different accents/ dialects around even in one language it might be a case of why bother.
If at some point kids are being taught by AI then they will learn to speak as the AI does and that becomes the new accent and pronunciation was what i was thinking might end up happening. |
