It was awful. I am a big girl but I could never consider getting into that state where she could hardly walk and had hee son be her part time carer.

It didn't discuss how she got into that state, yes over eating is obviously part of it but there could be more underlying issues, health problems etc

It's a shame that some people live with things like hernia's and lypoma's, which I think was the other complaint she had. Why didn't she seek help sooner? Did she seek help sooner but her GP let her down? I guess we will never know

I just cannot watch programs like that - not for the actual content, but for the editorializing and way in which the subject matter is presented.

having watched the programme last night it does make me mad these days when doctors etc always have an excuse for someone reaching such a state.mental problems/heath problems etc when at the end of the day its down to pure laziness and over eating.as they say;u never saw a fat person come out of the concentration camps.harsh but true

We watched it - always feel slightly guilty watching it as (like most of Channel 4's "documentaries") it's akin to a Victorian freak show. At least this one does try and address serious health issues.

And S does like Dr Christian's body and Dr. Pixie does it for me

!

I'm not fat, I do triathlons and other training so I'm hoping my comment is objective.

A lot of people struggle with weight due to modern lifestyles, the rubbish sold on the shelves and opinion towards them.

I bet a lot of people struggling with weight feel self concious about being seen in gyms or out training.

I'm sorry but the lazy claim isn't justified....very often self esteem causes a downward spiral and lack of motivation.

I know plenty of lazy slim people ! Stick a Bergen loaded up on your back and get running.....see how far you get before you have enough ! Overweight people find it hard....encourage don't judge.

I find medical things very uncomfortable to watch to be honest. I worry about the person's dignity and obviously it is their choice, unless they are only getting the treatment as a condition of an appearance... if so, that is very sad.

Actually, for some (not all) its an addiction.

Like drugs, booze or cigarettes.

So that's the answer then is it? Concentration camps?

Whilst on the whole a lot of weight usue is down to diet and exercise there is a lot that can be attributed to lack of education, medications such as steroids, ilnesses Su h as insulin resistance etc.

It is very easy for someody in smug slim towers to sit there and say how simple it is to lose weight but until you have tried to do it your arguement means Shit all.

I do believe that there is an element of mentalhealth that needs looking at. Oddly iI am going to agree with nik nak here and say that anyone who can eat crap food whilst moaning about being fat clearly has a more deep routed problem.

Losing weight is hard for overweight people, exercising is hard for overweight people. The beloved Dr Christian himself admitted as much last night when he had to wear a fat suit and do gym tests.

You know, food is an addictive substance - especially for foods pumped full of fat and salt and sugar.

When you get someone who is addicted to booze, you offer them counselling, clinics and support.

When you get someone addicted to drugs, you give them methadone, support programs and live-in centers, needle exchange programs and support out there on the streets.

When you get someone addicted to cigarettes, you offer them support groups, patches and gum.

When you get someone addicted to food, you show TV programs about them making them look like Sideshow Freaks, give disappointing looks and re-enforce the shame and embarrassment by having thin, toned people saying 'Get off your arse you fat fuck, stop eating lard and drinking gravy'.

Meanwhile, every supermarket, fast food joint and takeaway continues to push the drug of choice - unaffected by legislation.

Now, tell me whats wrong with this picture?

over the years i have seen things about people on drugs and how thay was helped get them off... and also people drinking .. On sky thay cover most things .. I never see this lady as a freak i see her as a lady who needed help to get out of this ... and if being on this show will help her keep alive i for one will be pleased .. as there was no hope .. she had almost given up.As could not get help no one would take her on because of the weight an risk was so high to operate .. Having her in lock down 3 months them feeding her will help i hope .. but its like a prison . She been living like that years and years been getting worse as no one would help.

As the nhs is for residents of the UK in glad they don't help everyone in the world LOL

But I do agree with your point to an extent. If she had had more than one procedure to helpher lose weight there is cclearly something wrong in just doing it again and again, wasting resources that could be used elsewhere.

The difficulty comes when you look at what point you withdraw any help. You are essentially signing a death warrant and can the government be seen to be doing that?

Ugh remind me I'm on a new diet for life as of last Autumn. They found a hernia, gastritis and barretts. Little did i know they were lookin for cancer. I lost that competition thankfully.

Mostly live off fruit, fish, sea, eggs, rice and brown bread now lol and now below 100kg's. Digestion and health have never been better!

Could never let myself get massive though

Turned out I had a hernia for years. I grew up in a family that said, 'what's wrong with you? Stop moaning!' And it just became life. So I was throwing up in my sleep and living with godawful pains for ages and saying yep, this is normal!

Same here, that was a big part of it and that wasn't even what forced me out of work. I couldn't sleep because my stomach is permanently open and I kept waking up inhaling puke.

As I've said here before, Fabrice Muamba 'looked after himself very well', indeed he had a team of people looking after him.

It didn't stop him nearly dying from a heart problem.

Shes had 3 weight loss surgeries before she got to this stage so I dont think she has been let down by anyone except for herself, and to put her son through it too, hes having to care for her and personal care too!!! She has turned him into her carer because of what she has done and should be ashamed of herself

Just asking because a friend fainted and it turned out she had a blood clot in her lung. You definitely dont have that tho if you can run that much. Maybe with the rowing machine it's the diaphragm putting pressure on your heart and the blood rushing to your head more in the sitting position. If you have heart problems, sit that one out. That's also who Elvis died on the toilet haha

I was having cardiograms just after my mid 20's. Stress and anxiety can cause the chest pains and lethargy, as for fainting spells, have any breathing probs?

I dont seem to have breathing probs I can run 13miles ina hour and half easy but I go on a rowing machine and have a intense 3mins I feel dizzie and be sick its strange"

This is not a diagnosis but you might ask about being checked for tachycardia. The heart races (up to c 200 beats/ minute) then stops abruptly for self-protection. Sometimes people faint (syncope) and sometime they just feel dizzy.

Either way, it's not good.

That's also who Elvis died on the toilet haha"

Yeah iv stopped going gym til I workout whats the matter with me.... Happend like 4times now... Some really hot girl I like come over and started chatting to me and I just completly ignored her and ran to the toilet. I was laying with my head on the toilet for ages! you know that feeling like when you have had to much booz and rooms spinning

Anyway never did chat to her again lol she probably wondered why I did 3mins on the rowing machine and then went toilet for a hour

"having watched the programme last night it does make me mad these days when doctors etc always have an excuse for someone reaching such a state.mental problems/heath problems etc when at the end of the day its down to pure laziness and over eating.as they say;u never saw a fat person come out of the concentration camps.harsh but true

Thank you. It's such a refreshing change to see a balanced, understanding post.

It's hard to imagine anyone being so desperate to be on the telly that they expose themselves like this.

That anybody thinks the obese choose to be that way is madness.

Food is addictive. Add to that the sheer bollocks spouted about what constitutes a healthy diet and you have your answer.

I am eight stones lighter than I was and should really loose another two but the tiny amounts of food I eat just to maintain my current weight would lead to a starvation diet to get thinner.

I abandoned carbs nearly 5 years ago and control my food intake rigidly. I have no choice. Thankfully, the cravings are FAR less than they were but I'm an addict and I always will be.

Don't ever call me lazy. I held down a professional, full-time, shift work job whilst bringing up two children on my own and digging my little family out of poverty.

Rant over and thanks for reading.

Its true especially today with the amount of MSG in foods that are processed. Even pure foods like meat have natural MSG. For those that don't know what MSG does, mono-sodium glutamate is an amino derived salt that affects your nervous system.

It's a seasoning that the americans call 'accent.' It doesn't have a flavour of its own but it enhances flavours/gives them body and the result of the MSG is that your system or your brain ends up wanting more. One reason why if I were to get a KFC megabucket, the taste makes me able to just keep on eating because my sensors that tell me when I'm full have been blocked (and it tastes so goood).

I'm a dab hand at mixing herbs and spices and creating flavours but even I can't recreate certain flavours because MSG just makes everything taste different.

If people really want to cut weight, drop the MSG's. Meat, white bread, cheese, soups and processed foods. After a few days, you will be stuffed just eating a banana!
