As Lance Armstrong prepares for his intriguing but no doubt stage-managed public relations exercise with the sports aficionado and interviewing rottweiler that is, ahem, Oprah Winfrey, one of our country's greatest female cyclists uses the publicity of her retirement to launch a scathing attack on him. Heart-warming.

I don't think Armstrong should be given airtime. He wasn't sorry while he was cheating his fellow competitors out of competing on equal terms, only sorry he got found out. The man is scum. |

It wasnt the fact he cheeted its the way he did it.. lied n acused his acusers of shit things, like his massuses when she told the world he was a cheet he lied n said she was a whore, the daily mail was sewed for over a million,, his sponcers gave him millions coz he was a clean athlete he is a cheet the excuse well every one else was doing it is shite he was a huge anti drug role model... well not anymore lance.. so he got thru cancer big deal loads of people do especialy with the best healthcare money can buy.. |

I would say its a fair statement, the whole sport has been tainted by drugs, this is why even now tour winners have to defend themselves against people assuming they have cheated, and there were a lot of people at it In Armstrongs era all his team edoped or weren't allowed on the team and they can't find a rider in the top 10 of any of Armstrong's victories who wasn't doping think the best placed clean rider was 14th |

The man bullied fellow riders into using drugs, destroyed the careers of those who tried to say no, forced riders out of the sport and bribed his way out of trouble on several occasions, with the help and support of the UCI.
The 'man' is a cheat, a liar, a fake & a fraud. He should be given no more air time & should be a million miles away from the sport.

Wrong. Not everyone responds equally to the drugs, it was never a level playing field and Armstrong and his team ran the most efficient doping ring in sporting history.
Not to say other riders and teams weren't at it, just that Armstrong & co did it in an industrial manner. |

No one is questioning this, it's his actions in his professional career that they are talking about.
Are you suggesting he should be forgiven for dragging down a whole sport because he beat cancer? Don't get me wrong, it's great to hear a success story when it comes to cancer but you have to remember.....he used this as part of his or when he won all those tour Dr France's under the influence if performance enhancing drugs......not the work of a hero in my eyes. |

A very simplistic viewpoint. He was the only one that bribed and bullied his way to the top.. And Livestrong was a front for that behaviour.
Oprah will be a farce they've been friends for years.
As for Cooke, if the _umours I heard were true I suspect there were a few sighs of relief yesterday within British Cycling yesterday as her retirement statement wad much tamer than it could have been. |

I actually fear for Armstrong's well being. All he has ever known is the life of an athlete. The confession is nothing more than a desperate attempt to be able to compete in triathlon again. He's deluded enough to not realise his political aspirations are over. He's lost Livestrong. He's lost all his corporate endorsements, lost the lucrative public speaking. has nothing left of the past and no clear future.He's a washed up forget junkie. |

I don't understand why he don't slink off with husband millions and just keep quiet and live his life. He is obviously guilty and whatever contrived interview he has with Oprah will not change a thing.

The drugs the others were taking gave the cyclists the ability to perform at the top of their threshold, the EPO Armstrong was on increased the oxygen flow in the bloodstream, and therefore could perform beyond his threshold, especially when he was flying up the mountains. His recovery between stages was also increased. |

In the interview the only thing Lance should respond with is all you young kids out there competing in sports DON'T cheat as you will always get caught out !!! that is if he has the balls oops ball!!! other than that fuck him and everything he has done and now how he wants to continue in other riding events ,give me a break!!! |

Looks to me like he found the perfect way to cheat as no ones been able to prove what he was actually doing, they think they know but there's still no concrete proof .
Other posts on here are right though , it sayes a lot when they haven't given his wins to the guy who came second because they don't know who was and who wasn't cheating !  |

There are witness statements that he confessed to extensive doping when he was diagnosed. There is also a belief that the late diagnosis was in part to his doping distorting so many blood values.
Armstrong turned pro very young but couldn't finish a race. Year later he was world champion. It's not hard to work out when he started or at least started in ernest. |

As someone who has survived cancer and now training for the London Marathon my inspiration is Jane Tomlinson, someone who showed what can be achieved with true grit and a desire not to give in

I still wear my livestrong band for a simple fact ,he has never failed a drugs test !!
It's all hear say from other people and fellow cyclists !! ,who have either been paid or let off with a lighter punishment !!
Give it a few years and they'll be throwing shit at the likes of bradley wiggins etc !
I beleive he's only doing the interview to save the foundation as he's lost everything else so may as well give the world what they want to hear and walk away !!

There's no doubting he was a very good cyclist but anyone who still believes he wasn't a huge drugs cheat (and not just that, but an aggressive bully to anyone who opposed his regime of cheating) is either looking through VERY rose-tinted spectacles or simply hasn't taken the time to read all of the information that's come out as a result of the recent investigations.
Yes there was a lot of EPO in the pro peleton during his 'glory years' but he was the one who took organised doping to a whole new level. And if you think about, it should be pretty clear that if all the other contenders at the time were doping too, he would never have won a single TdF unless he was doping even more. there is just no way a clean Armstrong would have been able to destroy a juiced Ullrich like he did. |

I actually think things are getting much better - and the fallout from the Armstrong affair can only help... that's the one upside. I fully believe the 2012 (go Wiggo!) was clean, I saw nothing there in terms of superhuman outputs on climbs, too-fast recovery times etc to raise any suspicion - although that may have been helped by the absence of the Schlecks and Contador, who I don't trust. |

Of course time will tell if this is correct, but an admission without failing a drug test just throws into doubt the whole testing regime! It also causes a dilema for those who say they will believe he was clean unless he fails a test! They will have to take his admission! |

Over 500? Where did you read that? It's another Armstrong lie. Bit like when he claims to be the most tasted athlete on earth, when he wasn't even the most tested American cyclist called Armstrong (that honour falls to Kirsten Armstrong). And he failed a test but got a back dated TUPE. And he bribed the UCI. And he tried to bribe USADA. And the testing labs told him how to beat the tests. |

it always intrigues me why its never dealt with at the time, when evidence, if any, can be brought to light. Why do they leave it years later to sort out. Just like the saville enquirey. Its media driven idiocey. Contador got fucked the other year, found out, slapped, and won the veulta. most top riders have used it, he wasnt found out. Just a few narked riders want it sortin maybe. It's not media lead. There was a federal investigation that faltered for reasons unknown and then an investigation by USADA, how is that in anyway media lead? |

personaly I have no simpathy for him! Use to be a hero of mine but he was never a true athlete if you are not clean! Nicole Cook had to take the teams she rode for to court 3 times to get her wages because she wouldnt take anything she will be rememberd for all the right reasons! good on her |

"Save the foundation" - that would be the foundation that he resigned from already.
Lost everything else? No he most definitely still has most of his personal fortune of approximately £125million. Even the lawsuits he has laid himself wide open to won't make that big a dent in it.
His confession is for one reason and one reason only. Because he wants to compete in ironman triathlon and wants his lifetime ban significantly reduced. |

Begs the question...why didn't he get caught! He is one of the most tested athletes and they never caught him! Either he's very good or the testing system is not up to the job!
If he got away with it which other cyclist are getting away with it?
Best bet is the International Cycling Union, start to employ him and find out how he did it, so they can get a better testing system in place... or are they just not bothered? |

I think the life ban will be dropped to 2 years. Which is in keeping with other bans. The whistleblowers got a 6 month ban for co-operating though again in the interest of consistency in my opinion that should have been 1 year. |

He has lost every single income stream he had. The $multi-million endorsements and sponserships, the extremely lucrative public speaking appointments, the extremely dubious but very significant income from Livestrong, the various lawsuits he was already facing will multiply significantly now and one is potentially in the region of 10's of millions of dollars...
The one thing that Armstrong is not doing is making money. |
