Lloyds along with 200 other chemists have passed emails, first, surname and telephone numbers over Facebook and TikTok. Search field data was also disclosed, so if you bought something or not, you searching for 'itch cream' on their sites meant social networks received your data to enable advertising.
Does this data/personal information harvesting worry you, or are you more 'forget and forgive' about it?
My app use is fairly limited, but just as example - sites like this (not that info has been shared), personal pics, vids, activities, voices, destinations and nonsense questions are asked giving reads on anything from personal history to tastes, income, times abroad, personality and on. It's quick to forget what information you're sharing.

Got enough to worry about than someone getting into my bank account and paying my overdraft off. Crack on. Any social media I’ve got isn’t in my actual name. Business social media is but that’s all over the net anyway so nah not worried. |

I've always had a healthy pessimism toward technology. I realise you can't escape it but after seeing apps access everything on your phone then disappear or be bought out or more everyday asks of mail details from organisations when it's unnecessary, I've always tried to sidestep it where I can. |

Exactly that, they have now removed the pixel that gives the data, though they were also passing medication details. |

how many people truly read the cookie notice before agreeing to everything!? Data is being harvested constantly, and guess what, Tesco with their clubcard probably have more info than they know what to do with. Our data is a commodity in the business world |

Unfortunately data harvesting is one of those things that occur on a far FAR greater scale than people realise.
Google is a huge pioneer of this, through their Chrome browser, extensions etc etc. Android phones are just as bad for this.
GDPR was supposed to stop this, but like all things, too many loopholes baked in, “legitimate interest” being one of them. |

Always limit, have no traditional social media accounts, my exact existence doesn't exist online, if you google my name, I'm a black author in the states, not a chunky white engineer from the uk. Always deactivate all legitimate interest and don't sign up to loyalty programs.
Can we take an email address for your receipt? No, you absolutely cannot |

I mean, our phones and banks have been doing all this for years, I don’t see why an app doing exactly the same while being open is a problem, more informative than problematic, no? |

I couldn't care less about data harvesting to be honest.
If companies want to pay someone to find out what shopping I buy to try and persuade me to change brands then crack on. I'm a grown adult capable of making my own choices and hard to sway by adverts.
Likewise general personal data. I've filled enough surveys out in my life, entered enough online competitions and shared enough personal info on mainstream social media to quite frankly bore the pants off of any marketing whizz kids.
What I want to keep private I do. But honestly....worrying about targeted advertising, covert government surveillance and the 'illuminati' watching my every move? Never gonna happen. I even like CCTV. It keeps people safer.

So fake goods are available everywhere but it seems a slight co-incidence TikTok has seen sales in counterfeit meds and beauty products increase on the back of it collecting pharmacy data. It's buyer beware if any shop online.

Most people are oblivious to this.
Some of the data gathering is pretty harmless. It's the collation of data from disparate sources. That's when it has unpleasant implications.
There's a lot of reputable information on data gathering and information harvesting if you're motivated to look OP. |

Data gathering and collection is usually to understand trends. It's not usually a means for external companies to hive off medications, site searches, telephone numbers or emails.
The fact Lloyds removed the ability for them to gather the data shows they were laps (until reported), in keeping personal data secure.
Capita who have military and NHS contracts have just been hacked. If they were revealing customer data on a daily basis they would no longer be in operation. |
