"I do, got back into camping last summer.
Struggle to get a tent up by myself, bit I do it.
Have been looking for a van over the past month or so also.
Happy camping "
I've always struggled with the pole tents haha. Have you looked into an air tent? We have one of those and it goes up in minutes.... |

Off camping in August with the family. First time since Scotland 2018. Laying on hard ground for a week or so isn't as interesting to me as it used to be!
You? |

Loved our air tent! Have a caravan now - earlier than planned but was a bargain not to be missed |

Outer Hebrides no question the most beautiful place on earth. Parked up with the whole beach to yourself |

I have a forest where I'm making areas for camping, as well as cabins and glamping pods. I might even make a special area for things like outdoor stockades, sex swings, etc. It's a work in progress just now. |

We've both got vans, hers is bigger than mine phnar phnar
This year we are going to pack the essentials into our kayak and pitch up on one of the islands in Poole harbour and stay the night. Also hope to take our essentials down the beach at Man of War bay and have a raucous overnight party like we used to do. |

Drove a camper down to Zaragoza and back and later hired a camper in Rome and took that to Pompeii and back. Both awesome trips in their own rights. I simply cannot recommend enough just getting in a van and fucking off somewhere with only a vague idea of a destination and an open mind |

Had a caravan and with a young family and a wife that loved home comforts that worked. Fully serviced plots and family driven amenities were great.
Not really my thing though! Like a bit of off grid and rando encounters with great people. Done tents (lived in Afghan and Kuwait for nearly a year so the thrill wore off).
Halfway measure is a well kitted out stealth van that has everything in it for a practical week away including our water sports gear (not that water sports you prevents!!). We can go where we want, park up often for free and not have to pitch a sodding tent without being restricted to 50 or wide roads and trying to reverse a fucking caravan. |

Serious summer camper here.
I am an advocate of stealth camping as well as using sites so settled a long while back on using Japanese van type MPVs in combination with tents on sites and van alone for one night park ups.
Had a fitted VW Type 25 from 2000 for about 15 years of use then laid up and now sold. In parallel was using MPV plus tent and found I preferred ditching the fitted camper in favour of versatility.
Currently using a Honda Stepwgn after 15 years with a Mazda Bongo and before that a Toyota Space Cruiser. Loved them all.
Also, unmodified tin top vans don't scream out 'camping' wherever you pull up for a discreet overnight kip before the next day of doing whatever you've gone there to do.
Don't miss the cooking facilities. Easy enough to find food outlets (except on Easter Sunday). Quite often take a 3way fridge, however, if going somewhere with mains or using the gas option with the fridge in an adjacent tent.
Have a couple of different frame tent plus vehicle combinations or a simple porched ridge tent outer flysheet layer mating with the side sliding door. I/we always sleep in the van and just use the tent as useful space.
Not talking about prolonged holidays. Most often 2-3 days with 1-2 nights, or trips broken with occasional budget stop overs for a decent shower etc. |

Your post came up while I was typing mine and it looks like we have a common stealth approach! |

It's the way ahead! We take my SWB medium roof for getting close to the water and ease of parking with a diesel heater to warm up when we get in off the water and her LWB high top for a social weekend and relax with a drink time.
She christened my van by meeting a FWB when we were in his town between the starter and main course - returning to her seat leaking jizz without our friends being any of the wiser
Her van is yet to be christened - any ladies want to help with that |

I love camping, can't wait to get out again this year. Some of the camping things I love :-
Hearing zips at night, hearing zips in morning
The noise of a gas lamp
The smell of bacon cooking
The whistle of the kettle
The rain on the canvas when tucked in bed
Bliss! |

I had a lovely van that we called the pussy pamper palace, used to take the ex all over in it. Had to get rid of it though. Noisy, loud, smoked a lot, uncomfortable ride and expensive to maintain. Van was good though |

Gonna have to get some dates in the diary to head off out again. Particularly love the Wye valley and paddle boarding and kayaking into Ross on Wye. Tressyke and the coastline up to Fishguard is stunning. Would also like to do the lakes this year and Snowdon. Haven't done Nevis yet so that's on my long term horizon.
Has anyone watched race across the world? Really love the idea of that? |
