I need your help! Or a massage. :)

I walked 16km up a brutal mountain yesterday and I’m in bits.
I do loads of hiking up mountains, I’ve hiked the highest peaks in Wales, but this was another level!
My legs and arse feel knotted and I have to go sideways or on my butt down steps. I’m walking like a Mummy - arms out and stiff legs.
Help! What will make this better? I feel like a right twat laid up here!
I don’t have a bath, I’ve had several hot showers, I’ve stretched loads.
Any other suggestions? |

Just time unfortunately. Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is not fun. If you have a hard ball like a lacrosse ball or foam roller then rolling it around the painful areas can ease the knotting.

Hot showers are the worst thing you can have, after an intense work out, I used to play professional rugby and before we was allowed anywhere near the shower it was an ice bath or if that wasn’t ready it was an ice cold shower for 2 mins, then a luke warm shower, make sure your doing static stretches and hold them for 15-20 seconds rather than your normal 8-10 try and see if you can get a foam roller too they’re excellent hope this helps oh an not forgetting the most important a massage with baby oil good luck x |

The best thing you can do is walk again. Easier said than done, I know! Do you have a garden you can hobble around? Get those muscles moving again and then keep stretching |

Never with baby oil
Why’s that? "
Because it's made with mineral oil and doesn't get absorbed hence why it's baby oil and used as a barrier |

If you can tolerate... then ibuprofen three times a day to reduce inflammation can help with the pain... also heat I'd heat pads or a hot water bottle x |

In the time I’ve taken to make a coffee and go to the loo, I’ve had all of the above replies. It’s gonna be a long day! Thank you all for the advise…
So ice packs, stretches, keep moving, ibuprofen, no baby oil, no more hot showers, watch my wee colour, and wait for the beautiful Meli and delicious SKLogan for a massage!
Ok I’ve got this! definitely the latter part. |

Aw thank you all. Yep still suffering. Every time I take a step my legs just cramp up, it’s not fun when you work with about 30 truckers who all assume you’ve been gang banged all weekend!
Taking the pain killers and trying to move as much as possible. May book in for a massage by the weekend.
How do I prevent this in the future? |

This will be gone by the weekend, it should anyway.
Where did you go? 16miles.
The best is stay active and exercise more often build up your strength, gradually take longer and more difficult walks. that’s the only way.

I go hiking loads. Never had this before. Was up the Dragons Back in Brecon. Only 16km but parts of it are so steep and almost like going up steps.
I’m used to more gradual inclines.
Lesson learnt! |

That’s the problem, difficulty is a key, if is very steep your muscles work much harder going up, and I find it horrible going down too lol.
Give it few days you will be fine, move about but don’t go crazy |

Make sure you do some good warm up exercises next time.
You could also find a good sports massage therapist and book in for a pre and post event massage (before and after, obviously).
A sports massage will help you out now, so find yourself a decent therapist and book in fir a couple of sessions. (If you were closer, I'd offer to help out as a qualified Sports Massage Therapist.) |

Get yourself the AllTrails app. What ever area you are in it will give you different walks of different lengths. Use it like a day nav. Better if you get the premium version. Then the walks you like you can download directly to your phone. You don’t need to worry about signal then. It’s been a game changer for me. Both walking and cycling. |
