I wanted to be an air hostess and pull a little trolley and click-clack in pretty shoes through the airport.
I did do it for 12 years and it was amazing. The shoes and trolley bit weren't what I'd built them up to be but seeing the world for free? Bloody awesome!

I had no clue career wise what I wanted to do. I did think I'd do the traditional school, sixth form, uni, marriage, kids by the time I'm 30 and that hasn't quite worked out the way I'd planned it. |

I wanted to be a journalist and travel around the world. But then I travelled around the world and met many journalists and decided that I didn’t like them.
So I got half of it done, I’ve been around the world many times now, as an engineer, and it’s been fun |

There were 2 jobs that as a kid i wanted to be when i grew up (physically grew up, not mentally).
I did the first after leaving school, for 14yrs.
And the 2nd, im still doing.
Both lived up to their expectations.
But unfortunately the 2nd one has lost a lot of its attraction now.
Oh, and of course, my new unexpected role as a white knight for mucky maroon headed wenches in distress, of course. |

I wanted to be a forensic pathologist, but unfortunately that hasn’t happened due to some unfortunate decisions.
Hoping to back to uni this year and be a forensic psychologist as that’s also something I’ve wanted to do.
Did also want to be a bus driver, vet and archaeologist |

All I wanted to be was a helicopter pilot. It doesn’t seem that fantastical now but, for some unknown reason, I never pursued it. I wish I had.
I still have never been on a helicopter and my inner child still loves them.
What about you, OP? What was your dream? |

Thanks to my father being into motors and mechanics, from as young as I remember I wanted to be a mechanic and dreamed of being one. I could do most things simple like brakes and servicing at 11 -13 ! Left school and went into a mechanics position.
Really long story all of it . But yeah I got to do my dream and you wouldn’t believe some of the cars, trucks, boats I’ve worked on.

I wanted to be a marine biologist, because I saw Jaques Cousteau,
Then a journalist, I was actually given a job at the Birmingham Mail but decided to work in a factory because the family needed the money.
Then I got into sales and have enjoyed it. I’ve travelled the world, I’ve stood in front of hundreds giving presentations and been to some of the top sporting events like Wimbledon for example 10 years running for ladies and gents semi finals days. |

Always wanted to do space exploration. From young was really interested in space and what it really hides up there. Loving gazing up and seeing the bright stars and wondering. Can we really not travel out of earth.
Growing up and coming to a realisation that. If i do go that path. Its a lonely dark road. |

I didn't know and I still don't know. I've worked ever since I turned 16 but can't say I've thoroughly enjoyed my career but it's done me ok. I enjoy the job I'm in now.
Mr on the other hand knew exactly what he wanted to do and is doing it, with me beside his side. Hoping it pays off well when we retire. |

The day I left school, my teacher told me to "find a job you enjoy, because you'll be doing it for the next 50 years".
Well, it took 10 years of working, alongside 5 years of college but I finally found it... & now it's time to let go but I really don't want to. |

Do you *have* to let go? A lot of people continue working until they’re ready to leave, past retirement etc? |

I was a dumb young laddie so the things I wanted to do were stupid ranging from being a ninja to being one of my dads lurchers.
These days the only real goal for work is to retain the ability to tell whoever I want to get fucked and suffer no consequences, feeling free is the main thing I’d hate to be trapped in a job where some estrogenic fat fuck of a “man” who wouldn’t say boo to a mouse in any social setting uses his slight position of power to talk to those beneath him like absolute shit and those working under him have to tolerate if as they need their job. I’d sooner work in horrible physical conditions as long as felt free than be one of those. Freedom and time is worth more than money in grand scheme of things

Told my Mother, when I was 4, that I wanted to be a police pathologist, or an undertaker... the idea of doing post mortems always fascinated me.
My careers teacher at school predicted I would end up in the electronics factory with all my classmates.
I didn't get to do what I wanted to, but I didn't go to the factory either. |

I wanted to work Bold colliery, it closed, ravenhead glass, it shut down, tried for the navy. I got an injury that stopped me trying.
No. I am so far from any of these jobs. |

I wanted to do so much.
When I was really little, I wanted to be a vet and have my own zoo. Then I wanted to be a firefighter but you had to be tall. So I thought I would travel the world and be an air hostess. That didn't happen either.
I'm happy with the jobs I've done. Even the crap ones, they are part of my journey. But I'm still little and don't really want to grow up yet! |

Sorry I should have chosen my words more carefully. It’s no excuse but when I think of those people my mind always reverts to the few I’ve encountered in past who all had similar physical traits again it’s no excuse, sorry |

I wanted to be a vet. I had an offer to study Vet Med at Cambridge, but having started my A levels with a 2wk old baby to look after, I didn't hit all of the grades I needed. I went to my backup course (microbiology) and drifted through lab work and eventually education. I'm in a managerial role but have held it for some time and it no longer challenges or excites me. But I don't know what else to do and whatever it is, it needs to accommodate my physical needs nowadays. |

Always wanted to be a rock musician. Had a fair crack at it, played in a few local bands with mates in my late teens / early twenties, played in local pubs, clubs, youth clubs etc but usually someone left the band just as we were getting a good following (usually the bass player) and the rest of us imploded.

So talented!
I won’t say it. I will not say skin flute.
Not a thing. I was ‘removed’ from recorder class in primary school and absolutely screamed at every music lesson pre gcse. Something about reading music just doesn’t work, in my brain. I can sing a little though |

Thank you! I'm bit rusty now as I've not played for years.
I'd like to say wow! I've just seen your profile and yes I will say it, you can play my skin flute anytime! Unfortunately I'm a bit above your age limit, too far away and married. Although, due to her health issues, we no longer have sex. We don't want to split up so she lets me play as long as she doesn't know what I do.

Yeah, James Acaster is hilarious!
Actually a mate of mine played guitar in a local band about the same time I was playing. I lost touch with him when his band broke up and he went to America. A few years later the keyboard player and co-lead vocalist in his band took over from Fish in Marillion!

On the OP, Red, I also wanted to be a footballer, but quickly realised that was a pipe dream. I also loved maps (still do), so maybe a sub-consciously wanted to be a cartographer.
