"Reports that the government will soon trial a warning message system that will send messages to your phone's. Did anyone ask the peoples?. Hope it can be switched off...."
You can choose to turn your phone off. |

In a town near me, a "government body" has a direct link to everyone in the villages home phones, in case of emergency.
I don't know about their mobile phones, presumably they have the same facility.
This is not a new thing. In the same way, in reverse, lines can be closed down for everything except essential services. If I recall it's happened a few times, London tube/bus bombings, Iranian embassy siege for example. |

"It's old news but it's rumbling on. What right do these buggers have....
No right, and it's not right. "
It's to warn us about severe risks of Flooding, fire and extreme weather...
So it's not about rights really is it ..
Oh and it's to give us a few seconds warning if we are getting nuked ... |

I’m signed up to local flood alerts by choice. I think you should be able select what warnings you want. |

It's another way to communicate that there are problems and to give relevant advice. It's a more sophisticated form of emergency air raid alert sirens. They're not picking out and gaining intelligence on people just by sending an alert. It will go to everyone in an area.
The next 1 is just a testing put of the service. No doubt, the networks will get some money too. |

Refuge tells you in a YouTube video how to turn it off.
Search 'emergency alert' in your phone's setting section, then use the toggles to turn off the alerts you don't want. |

If you think your phone is private information, you’re very much mistaken, google, fb, insta, all of them probably know your routine and probably had a gander and your dick pics in your camera roll.

Nothing to worry about. We get alerts all the time for different things. It's been around for awhile here. Rather get a alert for a tornado touching down then nothing at all. |

"It’s literally a noise for a few seconds to test it out in case of extreme danger, much like they have in America on the tv " We get alerts for when a child gets abducted. It sends a text on where it happened a description of the child and vehicle description and plate number. Same as other emergencies.

I'm guessing someone set up a spoof CIA twitter account.
But I soooooooo want to have been the actual CIA. |

Good heavens, the powers that be want to be able to warn us all en masse of an emergency! Where's my individually tailored, personal phone call from my MP to update me? Really, this country has gone downhill...

It's part of the mobile phone standards to cell broadcast alerts. This isn't big brother at all, it's a means to broadcast emergency info and wow the horror
I work in the industry and can track any phone on my network. The signalling tells everything, so an emergency alert system is so far off government big brother that I'm laughing hard |

Well every other reason for leaving the EU has turned out to be a load of utter bollocks, why not add this to the list? |

"It's hilarious that the conspiracy that big brother is watching. I guarantee if tornados hit England you would love having a alert system. "
Thing is they don’t. What they will be sending us is warnings that there’s 1/2 inch of snow or adverse heat( or a nice summer as we used to call it).
Just white noise unless it’s warning us of an impending nuclear attack from Russia? Or is that one for the conspiracy theorists? |

Good idea to be fair I’d sooner be wiped out by a tidal wave than listen to that bastard advert |

How dare they warn people of impending doom, we deserve to be left in the blissful ignorance we all crave so much.

Putin must be laughing at us right down the entire length of his table.
Talk about using our own government to spread doom and gloom on Russia's behalf. |

"Maybe when the message "The Russians have landed" comes through, we may want to know, maybe?"
And what exactly is Tom supposed to do,? Arm himself with a brush. Just one corrupt government for another...
Not interested.. |

Maybe run to the underground or head to Westminster as you can guarantee that they will be safe |
