In a town near me, a "government body" has a direct link to everyone in the villages home phones, in case of emergency.

I don't know about their mobile phones, presumably they have the same facility.

This is not a new thing. In the same way, in reverse, lines can be closed down for everything except essential services. If I recall it's happened a few times, London tube/bus bombings, Iranian embassy siege for example.

I’m signed up to local flood alerts by choice. I think you should be able select what warnings you want.

It's another way to communicate that there are problems and to give relevant advice. It's a more sophisticated form of emergency air raid alert sirens. They're not picking out and gaining intelligence on people just by sending an alert. It will go to everyone in an area.

The next 1 is just a testing put of the service. No doubt, the networks will get some money too.

Refuge tells you in a YouTube video how to turn it off.

Search 'emergency alert' in your phone's setting section, then use the toggles to turn off the alerts you don't want.

Nothing to worry about. We get alerts all the time for different things. It's been around for awhile here. Rather get a alert for a tornado touching down then nothing at all.

We get alerts for when a child gets abducted. It sends a text on where it happened a description of the child and vehicle description and plate number. Same as other emergencies.

It's part of the mobile phone standards to cell broadcast alerts. This isn't big brother at all, it's a means to broadcast emergency info and wow the horror

I work in the industry and can track any phone on my network. The signalling tells everything, so an emergency alert system is so far off government big brother that I'm laughing hard

Thing is they don’t. What they will be sending us is warnings that there’s 1/2 inch of snow or adverse heat( or a nice summer as we used to call it).

Just white noise unless it’s warning us of an impending nuclear attack from Russia? Or is that one for the conspiracy theorists?
