I moved to Malaysia for ten years and now back in the UK, since I have a condo still in KL and my daughter is half Malaysian, then there. In fact I might even retire back in Malaysia, or South of Franceor even Italy, who knows.

I speak the language, can get an ancestry visa, and it's part of Europe. Well, it was, anyway.

But wait, I already did that.

We (me, my son and ex stepson who still lives with me) dream of moving to southern Texas, it’s just a dream at the minute but we will try and make it a reality, main reason is we are sick of the weather effecting our income a bad winter cripples us so somewhere warm year round would be ideal obviously it means starting from scratch. Also could sell my house here and buy a better house there for same money and still be mortgage free, add in no income tax and Vat at around 6% and better quality of life

Don't forget medical insurance and that groceries are far more expensive

Those are potential downsides we are planning a month visit first to see what it’s like before commiting to move

Personally I’d skip the medical insurance as mine would be sky high with a heart attack and intestine removal on notes haha but I’d insist on my son and ex stepson (not sure what to refer to him as since me and his mam split haha) having it

Yes but it's at least two and a half years before they even process your application

Not sure why you think that, my brother got his within 2 weeks at the start of the year and they are quoting 8 weeks by post just now on their website.

You might want to check out the weather too ... they've had snow, storms and mass power outages for days this year.
