As a kid my 1st geek out was with collecting stamps!
Then as a 20 something it was lord of the rings and all things dark/fantasy
As an adult it became tropical fish keeping, major geek out topic for me this one, lots of research and hard work but with some amazingly satisfying results! |

I'm not too sure I'm a geek. No, I don't think I am.
I'm But I love lots of things - classical music, particularly string quartet arrangements/Baroque pieces (and playing the violin, being serenaded on piano). Mythos/folklore/supernatural. Which extends itself well to the films I love, literature (Gothic is my true love), the Arts in general.
Gaming, I'm trying to avoid computer etc ones currently and get more in to boardgames.
I'm trying to embrace the things I dork out about more. Like incorporating it into dates, reading more, going to see a few plays/musicals this year. |

I'm going to type the first two that springs to mind else I'll be listing twenty odd titles. Oscar Wilde will always be The Top Dog in this genre - I can't quite express how transformative Dorian Gray was to me as a bit of an emo teenager. And Dracula. Actually maybe Carmilla. No, Dracula. |

I am a geek. My daughter has confirmed it. So was my darling late wife. We met at uni and bonded over a shared love of Tolkien, fantasy sci-fi and alternative music. We had a gothic wedding. She had an archaeology degree, and was an artist, I have an engineering degree and am a software engineer. We were both avid Dungeons & Dragons players, and attended and organised conventions. We loved dressing up, and live action roleplaying. We were die-hard Trekkies and she was a Star Wars nut. And of course, we loved Buffy.
And our daughter? She's as bad as us. We made another geek. |

Books of course, film, like a pp I’m not just watching I’m learning about the making of, director writer etc noting the way it’s been filmed & why…
As a kid I was into collecting coins, foreign (before the euro it was great all the different designs of coins that were available from Europe as well as further afield) and old uk coins. I’d kinda forgotten about that until this thread. I had books with the coins set in and notes about the history of the coin, how I’d obtained it etc.
Erm…yep total geek here |

Geeky recommendations?
There are a series of gorgeous books by Edward Brooke-Hitching. The first two or three are about maps, but they're maps of the sea that are wrong because they're from the early days of exploration, 'here be dragons' stuff, or maps of the stars. Then later a book on curiosities of literature and most recently a book about different beliefs in the afterlife.
The books are all beautiful and full of pictures of the things he talks about, as well as arcane and fascinating information. Worth checking out. The books are;
The Phantom Atlas: The Greatest Myths, Lies and Blunders on Maps.
The Golden Atlas: The Greatest Explorations, Quests and Discoveries on Maps.
The Sky Atlas: The Greatest Maps, Myths and Discoveries of the Universe.
The Madman's Library: The Greatest Curiosities of Literature.
The Devil's Atlas: An Explorer's Guide to Heavens, Hells and Afterworlds |

Brutalist architecture, general electronic tinkering and repair, Model Railways, History (especially Cold War, The Wars of the Three Kingdoms, Jacobite Risings and any unusual and surreal happening and charters across History).
On top of those long running themes I'm always finding myself taken by shot term intense intrests. For example recently I've been fascinated by the history of the fast food wars of the 1990s. I think that was a spin off of when I was researching British Rail Catering 80/90s and more specifically BR's burger joint brand Casey Jones. Before that it was the history rise and fall of Little Cheff (I was loved by Little Cheff as a kid and quite the expert).

We're so geeky/nerdy we run a big online community on social media just for those interested in geek/nerd culture. Things like gaming, movies, comics, space, cosplay, tech through to modern interests so people who are gym nerds, sports nerds etc. We try and shake the age old stereotype that nerds/geeks are dorky, skinny little virgins with glasses who live in their parents basement. I must admit i hav'nt read this whole thread, but can a 65 year old be "Geeky" ?
I have been into photography since the age of 11 and nearly always upgrade gear at some point, although it did take a long time before i went completely digital.
Have also always built my own computers since the very early 1990's and still do.
Last year spent a considerable amount of £'s on a 77" LG G2 Oled, not my first by the way and certainly should i live another 5 years or so, not my last
Does that make me "Geeky" ? or just a sad old sod |

Big news if anyone’s a fan of Rebels/Clone Wars"
Good news, although the films recently have been pretty ropey. Dave F and Jon F have saved it's reputation for sure! |

I'm beyond being a geek, I'm probably the only English speaking person who seen every Godzilla film...yes, all 33 of the Japanese ones and the 3 American ones. I see 3 because the one that had Matthew Broderick doesn't count... that was just a big lizard |

Music and books, I'll listen to music all day, can't get enough. Discovering a new band/song that gets me going is the greatest feeling. Love having a playlist on in the kitchen when making a meal or breakfast. Puts me in a good place when I've got tunes. If I can't indulge in the aural pleasure then let me geek out on the written words. |

"I’ve decided on a new geek topic this week…WW2 Europe, Asia, or the home front?
All of them cowboy! I’ve been soaking in the entire remit of knowledge " a writer "w.e.b.griffin" wrote a series of fictional books following some marines from the early days before pearl harbor through korea |

"Books, games, films, TV, cosplay, conventions - yeah, pretty geeky
Favourite book (or genre) and film?
Couldn't possibly choose, too many options.
I count the whole Discworld series as one book so that's my favourite "
Definitely with you on Discworld . Genius writing! |

More of a Nerd than a geek..
When you've access to a PS5 and an RTX 4090, plus work in tech itself..
Plus getting the young ones into the original FF7...
I do hope that counts.. |

“Bring me your geeks, your dorks, your huddled masses yearning to breathe free…”
I like all manners of geekery. Astronomy, geopolitics, terrible 80’s sci-fi (Metalstorm, Beastmaster, Ladyhawke), old school hip hop, chin-stroke techno, obsolete music and A/V equipment. Photography books.
Form an orderly queue ladies. This one’s a catch! |

For anyone interested in WWII I highly reccomend the Al Murray podcast, we have ways of making you talk.
If you know your arnhem from your eindhoven then it's a must. Have been fascinated and interested in the topic from an early age. Blame the Victor comics and action man |

Tell me what forms your geekery takes, what your passions are and how you express them. Let's celebrate the things we love. "

I was actually the OP of this on a previous account but I'll re-join on new one
Love sci-fi (TV/film/novels), film noir, social/working class history, Arthurian mythology, and prone to sudden interests which I immediately want to know everything about (such as particular film-makers like Orson Welles or Joseph Losey). I have loads of tabs on my phone from hearing about something and looking it up to check out later - for example, Google 'Berber language' to see a written language I have a tab open on just because it looks so cool. Also into artists like Escher and Dali who play with reality in their work. |
