Following in from a recent thread 'am I in trouble' there is something that confuses me. If everyone practices safe sex Why then state that they get checked out @ the GUM clinic every cpl of weeks/months?
If it was 'that safe' why bother ?
And yes I am blonde lol |

Putting the 'cum' in Eboracum |
Because condoms aren't magic. They prevent diseases a large percentage of the time, but some split, some slip off, some are just crap. Regular testing as well as wearing condoms is the way to go. |

I practice safe sex... on occassions I have had a condom split or come off.
In order to be safe as well as sensible I get checked every 6 months depending on how active I have been |

Because no sex is 100% safe, no condom is 100% reliable and not everyone is 100% truthful..these are just some of the reasons that I will always get checked on a regular basis. |

I used to sell flavoured lube to girls to mask the taste of condoms |

Aside from condoms splitting the majority I know do oral unprotected and that is still a risk.

Because a condom isn't 100%
I've seen someone make the point before that if ur in a group situation and a guy fingers one gal then another straight after without hand washing then is that not risking passing something from one gal to the next? |

I checked some threads to see if anyone had made this point before. And I've only been using the forums for a couple of months |

"Playing devils advocate here ... So oral sex isn't as bad as no condom sex ? "
Its not as risky, but I wont play if I have a sore or ulcer in my mouth, as the risk of catching something is higher. |

Because using condoms is safe but not 100% just the same as they're only 99 % effective against pregnancy. That and the fact that other areas of the body come into contact with each other and secretions.... vulva, pubis, mouth, throat etc.
To list but A few conditions, wart virus, human papilloma virus, herpes, gonorrhoea, chlamydia, HIV, Hep B & C, etc etc and a full sexual health check would include blood tests, urine, anal, mouth, vaginal penile and mouth/ throat swabs.
Unless we do regular checks we don't know if we're likely to pass anything on. But remember .... Your sexual health check results are only good until the next time you play and results are certainly no passport that you have nothing as it often takes months before some diseases are traceable. It's all about early detection and prompt treatment to minimise long term damage caused from lack of treatment.
A sexual health check every sixth this or certainly annually is a wise precaution if you care about your own health and the health if any potential partners. |

"It was mentioned on the thread about waiting 2 weeks. Is that long enough ? "
you wait 2 weeks after the last time you have intercourse, to give any STI's a chance to develop. My clinic usually suggests a week. |

"As with everything on here.... I believe about 50%.. the rest is for effect, to impress, reassure, empty a scrotum or get a clit flicked..."
I'm in agreement with View. Some would have you believe they get tested every other day.
From the lack of understanding that is evident from some forum postings I am sceptical on the regularity some people say they go to the clinic, that's if they go at all

Well I think everyones been honest and upfront with their posts. And maybe your right about not everyone has checks as frequent as some may say but its hightlighted the subject of safe sex and maybe those who don't go as often as they should might think differently. |

I lot of people seem to be under the impression that 'practicing safe sex' is all about getting checked every 2,3,4,6,12 months..all that means is your safe after the event..it has nothing to do with 'practicing safe sex'..
The only way is to either abstain or make sure your prospective partners are free of any nasties...which is nye on impossible unless you know and trust the other party 100% |

Also the one std a condom can't protect u from is gential warts as on guys the form on the scrotum also n as it passed on by sexual contact remember condoms don't cover that area better to be safe than sorry. Also people can have the virus for up to 3 months before physical signs show |

I've been in the scene 15 years - it wasn't always like this.
Anyway, Im guilty of de-railing a thread. As you were! |

Hasn't it always been the case of taking responsibility for your own sexual health and NOT taking the word of someone else? |

My GUM clininc said its 3 months ( ) for that so suggested 3 monthly check ups are the best and glove up in between. Unfortunately getting tested does not stop you from catching the damn things but at least you can then get treated. |
