What’s the best passive aggressive sentence you can come up with?.
My boss has a habit of replying to my messages with K or and it really winds me up. He either hates my guts or just doesn’t understand how rude it comes across |

Dear Boss,
Thank you so very much for signalling your positive affirmation to my most recent excellent idea (or whatever you've done). I shall henceforth work on the full implementation of my idea, posthaste. Again, thank you so very much for your unwavering support.
Kind regards
X |

It's the thumbs up for me. Can't stand them, they're little lazy arsed ways of saying cool, read it. Can't be fucked saying anything else about it.
Sorely tempted to include an eyeroll to show my disdain for them. |

I am guilty of this tbf because I'm usually balls deep in a hundred and one other things so I give a thumbs up as an acknowledgement, however I always follow up when I see the person face to face
I shall be more mindful of it in the future now |

I do a thumbs up, loads of my colleagues do it...I don't see it as rude or lazy, sometimes the message is just relaying information and doesn't require a detailed response.
Its just another way of saying thanks or whatever. |

I once wrote an email that said
‘If I were not so taken aback by your inferring that I have some how acted in an irrational or arbitrary manner, I would consider the tone of your email extremely unprofessional’ |

I’m sure not everyone finds it annoying and I can see how it’s convenient for you if you’re super busy and don’t have the time to respond. |

"Great question and I can think of 2 immediately that really gets me fuming
Don’t take this the wrong way…
Just a friendly reminder…
Used to hear things all the time at work.
Marc"
“I’m not trying to be rude but…..”
immediately follows it up with something extremely rude |

Thumbs up is fine by me. It's quick and immediate, and doesn't mean the person giving it has to spend more time faffing about writing an email or calling.
Who has time for that shit, anyway ?
.
The trick to getting a meaningful thumbs up is to make the asking statement compelling enough to warrant a thumbs-up as the only valid option.
.
"Can I have £500 for a new doo-hickey?" : Thumbs down
.
"If you spend £500 on a doo-hickey, that other thing won't break, catch fire and burn us all to death. You can avoid Corporate Manslaughter charges by giving me a simple thumbs up and I'll sort the rest." : thumbs up
.
Managers manage (hopefully). They also need to be managed not just from above but from below as well.
