I have a meet this evening, was chatting to someone who asked the usual, is it a first or second meet etc, he then asks how long I have been grooming him for I then said that that is what paedophiles do to children, he has then come back with the definition that
'grooming refers to actions deliberately undertaken with the aim of befriending and establishing an emotional connection'
I would never see that I am grooming someone and I have taken offence to his comment but am I wrong? Did I jump to the wrong conclusion? I just found his comment awful and told him so |

Meanings of words change over time. Look at the word 'gay' for example, or even 'making love'. The connotation of 'grooming' to most people nowadays if it's not related to horses, and about sex, is that of paedophilia. I think you are right to be a trifle miffed! |

he probally made the comment in a light hearted way, and didnt mean to sound like a peado, then due to your offence felt he needed to try and justify his comment. Dont be put of by it and give him the benefit of the doubt, im sure for a single guy who,s trying to get a meet nervs can make you say something stupid or sound stupid. |

It's not grooming at all because both parties are well aware what they want. Grooming is where one individual deliberately sets out to ensnare another without them understanding what the position is. Have to wonder at this person's mentality if that's their slant on things. |

Agreed. It's about deliberately setting out to ensnare for ones own gratification... also agree with the person who suggested its a light-hearted comment gone awry! |
