Ah, fond memories. Loved a mixtape (I’m curious to know how many people on fab have never heard of this).
Never heard your song but just played it and love it!!!
As a follow up, I choose Frazier Chorus - Cloud 8 |

Will give it a listen. I wonder if Spotify playlists are the modern mixtape. |

Ah those were the days!
Spotify playlists just don't cut it - used to love creating mixtapes for friends (and people I was trying to impress!).
Great choice with St Etienne by the way.
I'd keep the early 1990's indie dance vibe going with this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yOBn50HHbRs
Annoyingly not on Spotify!

Oh good point, can you send someone a Spotify playlist? Like you say though, you can’t carefully make the cover using your favourite pens |

I remember sitting and listening to the radio and trying to time it perfect to press paly and record at the same time so as not to have presenters talking but not miss the start of the song!!
A stress this generation doesn't understand |

"Never made one or received one"
Here’s a mini one just for you Wonko, curated with thought and with hand-drawn googly eyes on the cover.
I'm NOT IN love - Fun Loving Criminals
Jenny from the BLOCK - J. Lo
United States of Whatever - Liam Lynch (it's just a Wonko vibe)
Never Gonna Give You Up - Rick Astley (in honour of the click bait)

LOL Oh yes, I remember that! Then the damned presenter would say something in the middle of your recording!
The latest mixtape I made was a really soppy one and the favourite tracks, corny but I love them "Have I told you lately" Van Morrison and "Amazed" Lonestar. |

I love a mixtape and sharing or creating playlists with people .
One of my friends made me a mix USB stick for my 30th and it was the best gift ever.

Remember making a rock metal mix tape for guy at school once. Never did give it to him.
Randomly found it years later when moving house. Mate and I spent all night getting d*unk and dancing to it.
Was best night. |

As someone who has made and bought many mixtapes over the years I disagree that the best mixtapes are eclectic. There used to be a guy in Camden Market in the early 2000s did great RnB/ Rap mix tapes on metal tape which still sound good.
I graduated to CDs and bought one of those faders so I could blend tracks, rather than one twist back with a pencil to blend on tape.
The only track so far on the list that I am feeling is LL Cool J Doing It, which is on one of my playlists for doing scenes (playlists seem to be the new mixtape).
However to be eclectic (and from one of my playlists) I will add
Space - "The Female of the Species"
From the same playlist and X Rated
King Noire ft Kendal Good "Poly Sutra"
And to be eclectic
Gov't Mule "Beautifully Broken" |

I like a theme and I like eclectic. I just love hearing about other people's music choices. Space is a favourite of mine and I'll give the others a listen |

I'm late to this thread, but I loved a mixtape (or CD when I was at my peak!) - used to spend hours on the running order to make sure the slow was seamless, and even made my own CD covers if I liked you enough!
If we're late 90s, it would definitely have had an Erykah Badu track: let's say 'Next Lifetime' if we're now on the mellow end of the playlist...! |
