Les miserable film

As a huge fan of the stage show I was a bit reticent to go & see the film.
Was also worried that all the hype would mean I'd be left disappointed....I wasn't, it was fantastic!
Word of warning though if you are thinking of going, take plenty of tissues! |

Yes it was released today, and it's not just the end that was sad!
Anne Hatherway was outstanding & brought me to tears, she definitely deserves the Oscar, even if she was only on screen for 15 minutes! |

I've just seen it. As a massive fan, seen it umpteen times and saw a few foreign versions too, it was ok.
Didn't like Russell Crowe as Javert and Hugh Jackman struggled. Defo not an Oscar winning performance!! Have to say the guy playing Marius was fantastic tho...
With a few tweaks it could have been out of this world!! |

I thought Crowe (not a favourite of mine) was surprisingly good! I will admit I expected more from Jackman though. That said overall I thought it was superb! |

Just got back. Anne hathaway was brilliant. Russell Crowe was disappointing but stars was good. I have major panda eyes from the finale and I LOVE that colm Wilkinson was the priest. Going to put the 25th anniversary on and cry again!! Do You Hear The People Sing? |

There's no substitute for a live performance."
I think its a case of _iewing it with an open mind, I had to big time having played the music and knowing the show inside out. It won't ever be as good as the stage show but it was very good. I was really nervous if I'm honest as I thought it could be a disaster. Some of the bits are very different but some of them are magnificent. The barricades was superb and I challenge anyone not to blart their way through the finale! |

Ann Hathaway was excellent, as was Eddie Redmayne, Samantha Barks and the lad who played Gavroche.
Crowe just didn't have the determination that other who have played the part portrayed, Philip Quast is the one and only Javert!
Jackman sounded as though he was in pain, he defo needed to come down an octave... or two; then when he needed to hit the high A in bring him home he missed the boat!
It was good to see Colm Wilkinson in the final scene too, it kinda rounded his legacy off.
The 25th Anniversary concert is great, especially when the original London cast come on at the end and sing One Day More!!

Yes I imagine we do. But the film is incredibly good. The orchestration is great too (even though they did something hideous to at the end of the day) and I thought Hugh jackman was a very good val jean. The guy that played marius was incredible. We won't talk about cosette!! |

It's still recorded music. It'll never be the same as sitting in a proper theatre whilst a real orchestra tunes up. |

Agreed which is why I think to compare it directly to the stage show is unfair. It's a different genre. As a film musical it was very good. The buzz you get in a theatre is different. To say the cast (bar 2) were not classically trained I think they took on what is, by definition, an opera incredibly well. |

I'm nt comparing it at all. I KNOW it'll fail any sensible comparison.

Les mis is my fave show, so me and my best friend are off to see it tonight and we are both really looking forward to it.
We are not expecting it to be the same as the show, nothing beats live performance, but that does not mean that it wont be good.
I will be taking tissues, i always cry.  |

I've not seen the film or the play but a friend of mine is an extra in this film (hes in it as a con pulling ropes or something lol). He got the job cos some of it is filmed here in portsmouth at the historic dockyard and they were auditioning for men as extras and they had to shave their hair off. He's been bragging about it ever since he filmed on his face book lol |

Loved it.
Cried my heart out "Bring him home".
Hugh Jackman was great. Anne Hathaway was awesome. Russel Crowe's voice wasnt the best but great casting none the less.
Best film I've seen in a long time and didnt even notice my bum getting numb!

Saw it last night, and want to go again as soon as I can. I'm a big fan of the show so was a little worried that they wouldn't do it justice. Hugh Jackman struggled in parts, but Anne Hatherway totally blew me away, she's shown Susan Boyle how it should be done for sure! On and I'm a little bit in love with Eddie Redmayne. |
