Have just upgraded to Skype as msn is been shut down soon and instantly let down by it ... myself and the wife like to use msn to chat at the same time to other couples ... so its a 4 way convo , we all use different colour text so everyone knows who`s talking ..... not any more , there's no colour option to start, so everyone's in black txt only ..... that's just the start .... mega disappointed in the upgrade .... |

I keep getting messages saying I am to be shoved to skype!!
I already have skype and find it very limiting unless you pay
I have gmail (because my mobile insisted on it) and I dont like that either |

Had to switch to Skype today and hate it, couldn't sign in with my hotmail addy for hours. Once i got signed in i found you couldn't choose which contacts you wanted to be either on or off line to. Not good if you just want to chat to one person without all your other contacts knowing you're on line and wanting to chat.
Maybe i've missed something and you can, if so, i'd love to know how you do it |

Have been using skype for years, there are no costs unless you are making calls to phone numbers, skype to skype both calls and text are free.
The not being able to show offline to specific contacts is a bit rubbish but once you are talking to who you want to set yourself to do not disturb or invisible and people tend not to bother you. |

I don't seem to have any of the above issues with my Skype. I'm on a Mac and have the newest version but I've been using Skype for years and had very few problems with the previous versions.
I think it's great for video & chat, the file transfer does tend to be slow if you're on cam.
And of course picture clarity is based on your Internet speed. I've noticed my camera becomes dramatically pixelated if I have my iMac with Skype, laptop and other devices connected to my network using up my bandwidth.
Oh and as for a charge, it's only if you want to buy Skype credit to call actual phones. |

It does seem very basic and we're still trying to figure it out but spend more time logging in and out as people appear online on my phone but when I log into laptop it says offline ? Bit of a pain so far ! |

We hate the way MSN has gone too, I have tried Skype and fount that the computer has slowed down, so have uninstalled it, I hated the bloody thing, If I wanted Skype in the first place I would have installed it, Dont like being told WHAT i HAVE to install,
looking for an alternative as we used to love to chat on cam and share pics, |

I am one of the few that will be sad to see msn going. I downloaded skype but dont like it's features and the way that if you want to remain offline or invisible to someone you dont wish to be disturbed by, you cant. So I have just downloaded yahoo instant messenger and think I will stick with that instead as it is the one that appears to be closest to msn.
It's a real shame that people have been forced into this. Msn may not have been everyones cup of tea but for keeping in touch with friends/relatives etc it was the most user friendly of the instant messenger services. |

Had skype for years but never used it, thought it would have been good for phoning friends and family in uk, bit shit really kept dropping out.
Got rid of msn as made up a new skype account for naughty things lol but never used it yet.
Got yahoo and think we will be using that alot more from now on. |

Was never a great fan of MSN anyway, much prefer Yahoo Messenger.
And typically arrogant Microsoft, they want to tell you what you'll do. So bin Skype and go elsewhere.
Although did they not buy Yahoo? Or did it fall through? |

I had Skype before it merged with MSN and I found I was using Skype more anyway because i had problems camming on MSN. I don't like the new Skype as much but I'm sure I will get used to it.
I also use Yahoo too so if anybody fancies a chat or cam chat on any of them please message me. |
