Bombastic production values are a key element  .
I do wonder if a few mentioned are a bit too high a tempo to be classed as a ballad (*music pedant alert*)
I’ve always thought Styx - Babe was a classic (cheesy) power ballad. Doesn’t seem to get much love . |

Absolutely banging tunes. Im a huge Cult and Pearl Jam fan..
But im offended you have selected them as power ballads.
I certainly wouldnt class them as such. I could be wrong though.
What actually is a power ballad?
Ive always assumed it was songs like:
Toto - Africa
Foreigner - I want To Know What Love is
Europe - The Final Countdown
Scorpions - Wind Of Change.
So what defines a Power Ballad??
(Or should that question be another thread?)
