In shock when my phone goes off at 3am and you get this as the news flash
Reinvented himself so many times… lily savage, the chat show and all the charity dog work
Had reached national treasure status! |

I had the pleasure of working with him several years ago, if anything, he was even more funny, charming and genuinely lovely in real life as he was on TV and such a huge animal lover too. Always enjoyed his R2 show as well ![](/icons/s/sad.gif) |

I think someone said it earlier… when you get rip threads you sometimes think “well you have to overlook some of the negative stuff “
But Paul may honestly be one of those people where I think I have never heard a bad thing uttered about him
He was drag before drag race… a campaigner, a listener and damn good entertainer and that before we get to the chat show which was so different, and then the animal work….
Someone jokingly said this morning they should posthumously give him a knighthood and make lily a dame! And I can’t think of a greater compliment
Definitely a national treasure lost |

"I just seen this on my news notifications, you just never know when it's your time
We just said the same thing. "
No better way to go though than in your sleep with zero knowledge it was going to happen. |

We also said that! Probably due to the similarity in ages.
I have no desire to go just yet though. My plan is to be shot by a jealous lover at the age of 99 |

sad news indeed.
He was for me one of the worlds sweetest people because he cared so much about so much, and that's rare these days.
Bet he and Cilla are having a ball now they are over the veil together. |

Just heard the sad news which has come at a shock because he was part of my life growing up and I think it was because of him doing lily savage really opened the door for others to be who they want to be and still feel comfortable |

I’m quite sad about this. I loved his radio show on Radio 2 and his tv show “For the love of dogs”.
He seemed a lovely warm character. I’m glad he died peacefully though - that’s all any of us can hope for. |

I mean can you imagine the stick he got as Lilly doing the circuit back at all those rough as working men's club's, quick witted and a thick skin, no doubt before drag was as popular.
I don't think we will see his like again.
RIP |

He was quick witted and funny
Been reading of his escapades in Liverpool news
Police raid at Royal Vauxhall tavern back in the day and all the police were wearing gloves
One burst in to his dressing room he thought it was a stripper on seeing the officer with gloves on he said
You hear to do the washing up
Funny man
Sadly missed ![](/icons/s/sad.gif) |

His death was announced by his husband. They were married. BBC this morning kept referring to his “partner”. No, it’s husband. Was fuming about it. Think Paul would be too. |

Very quick witted.
Really loved anything with him in.
His friendship with cilla was lovely and he gave a lovely speech at her funeral.
Adored for the love of dogs programme.
What a genuine guy he was, such sad news |

"I've been reading all the tributes and not one troll or anything badsaid about him. Just shows what kind of human he was."
He was a bit of diva, a bit of a live wire, but ya know what, fuck it, he was an absolute legend in my eyes
Stood up for what mattered
That is my endearing memory of him
Well, that and Lily Savage flirting with Parky ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

There is more than one, charting different stages in his life
I think the first is the best though ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

"A new statue for Birkenhead?
Birkenhead should definitely honour him somehow.
One of him with an armful of puppies and another of Lily Savage perking up her own, both on the same plinth."
You should submit a plan ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Although i have already posted my thoughts earlier on this thread, i do want to add another thought as well.
I can't think of any comedian's death that upset me more than Peter Cooks death in 1995 at the time. Pauls death though is on a completely different level. I think Paul was a much "warmer" human being than any comedian. I never knew or met him, but i did know Peter Cook very very well. I just wish that i had met Paul at some point, because i'm shure we would have got on very well. |
