There’s a few!
Adele’s cover of Make You Feel My Love
Otis Redding’s version of Satisfaction is better than the original
Nirvana’s cover of the Man Who Sold the World is a great cover which in hindsight is quite poignant
For personal reasons I love the Str anglers version of Walk on By

How has no one mentioned the mighty William Shatner?
Common People (with Ben Folds)
Jingle Bells (with Henry Rollins)
Honorary mentions to
Lay Lady Lay by Ministry
On Her Majesty's Secret Service by the Propellor heads
(In fact, the David Arnold "Shaken and Stirred" is full of incredible covers of Bond Themes)

If you like funk covers, check out Scary Pockets.
They have so many good covers it's hard to pick a favourite but I love their version of Aerosmith's Walk This Way.
Jack Conte also has a band called Pomplamoose that do mash ups. Their Sweet Dreams/Seven Nation Army one is great. |

My favourite is LTJ Bukem's cover of the James Bond theme |

"Theres a video of U2 (well the Edge and Bono) covering SOS by Abba, recorded in the last week or so
That’s from the Radio 2 Piano Room and their version is surprisingly good "
It pales in comparison with Portisheads version.
https://youtu.be/WVe-9VWIcCo
But in general cover versions aren't my cup of tea. |

"Not sure how well it done like money took in or that but (bad wolves-zombie) much better than the original imo however love that money went to the lassies family was a nice touch "
Dolores O'Riordan was originally going to guest with Bad Wolves on the song. When she passed away the band weren't sure whether to release it or not, but both the Cranberries and her family asked them to do so. As to whether it's a better version? They are quite different enough for me to love both |

I often answer...
Natalie Imbruglia - Torn
Soft Cell - Tainted Love
Heart - Alone
Blondie - The Tide Is High & Hanging On The Telephone
...to this question as many people don't know these "definitive" versions are covers. |

As much as I agree the soft cell is the best version...I do have a soft spot for the original northern soul version. |

Her mother Janis is a lovely lady! had a few lovely chats with her and she signed me a book. Not heard the Stevie cover and love Motown so it better be good. Lol |

It really is,such a beautiful but tortured soul. Saw her live in an intimate venue, incredible. How amazing you got to meet her though.
Hope you like the Heavies cover! |

Hope you like the Heavies cover! " She had humour too! But she had her demons. I never met Amy sadly but Janis is a lovely lady and very caring. I'll give it a listen! |

Amy also did a wonderful cover of I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus. I know it’s a seasonal song and it’s nearly Easter but it’s such a jazz-inspired version that she just made her own. Well worth a listen even in Spring. |

I would add a number of Pet Shop Boys tracks to that list, including Go West and Where the Streets Have No name!

I’d say that those Pet Shop Booys songs are pretty well known covers.
I will add I Can’t Make You Love Me by George Michael, originally done by Bonnie Raitt |

I'm not sure either, but I've liked his music from day one, so I'll not stop now. |
