Have a mooch to Retiro Park, maybe go boating on the lake. Not far away are all the museums and art galleries too. You can't take suitcases or rucksacks into the museums, even to put in storage, FYI.

Spending time in the Plaza Mayor is cool and el Palacio Real is fabuloso. One thing: beware of pick pockets and bag snatchers everywhere you go.
