Unrequited love.
Is it a beautiful thing to hold in your heart. Can you soak in it’s feeling and live with it knowing that love exists or will it eventually start to develop into resentment by not being fed what it desires?

That's bizarre. It's not censored in the Lounge thread list but it is here on the post.
For me, confirmation that feelings are unrequited allows me to move on. I don't think I've ever had more than a strong crushes in that situation though which makes it easier.

I do
There is a guy on here who I met first about 13 or 14 years ago
There was an instant click
It is still there
I know he is here
He knows I am here
We both know we are each in long term relationships (he also has kids now)
So, we leave it alone
The sex was requited
The love never was and never will be |

I don’t know. But it sounds horrible to me & I hope I never find out to be honest. |

Unrequited love. (And even unrequited infatuation)
It's a strange and perplexing feeling, isn't it?
It's like maintaining 'escape velocity'...giving so much energy and work for relatively little in return. It is certainly a most beautiful thing to hold in your heart; a souvenir or token of something that wasn't completely fulfilled or which reached any real conclusion.
Actually, I have no idea what I'm talking about. |

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon |
I believe that love is a gift that should be given freely, with no strings, no caveats and no regrets. It doesn't need reciprocation and doesn't need explanation. It just is.
If the recipient feels the same, great, if not then that's a shame but the love is still a joy to feel and a joy to hold in your heart.
An actual love, rather than lust or a desire to be desired, is pure and should enrich the heart of the lover, as it shows an eternal hope and the ability to feel joy.

The opening monologue from The Holiday sums it up for me
" I've found almost everything ever written about love to be true.
Shakespeare said "Journeys end in lovers meeting." What an extraordinary thought.
Personally, I have not experienced anything remotely close to that, but I am more than willing to believe Shakespeare had.
I suppose I think about love more than anyone really should. I am constantly amazed by its sheer power to alter and define our lives.
It was Shakespeare who also said "love is blind". Now that is something I know to be true. For some quite inexplicably, love fades; for others love is simply lost. But then of course love can also be found, even if just for the night. And then, there's another kind of love: the cruelest kind. The one that almost kills its victims. It's called unrequited love. Of that I am an expert.
Most love stories are about people who fall in love with each other. But what about the rest of us? What about our stories, those of us who fall in love alone?
We are the victims of the one sided affair. We are the cursed of the loved ones. We are the unloved ones, the walking wounded. The handicapped without the advantage of a great parking space!
Yes, you are looking at one such individual. And I have willingly loved that man for over three miserable years! The absolute worst years of my life! The worst Christmas', the worst Birthday's, New Years Eve's brought in by tears and valium.
These years that I have been in love have been the darkest days of my life. All because I've been cursed by being in love with a man who does not and will not love me back. Oh god, just the sight of him! Heart pounding! Throat thickening! Absolutely can't swallow! All the usual symptoms. I understand feeling as small and as insignificant as humanly possible. And how it can actually ache in places you didn't know you had inside you.
And it doesn't matter how many new haircuts you get, or gyms you join, or how many glasses of chardonnay you drink with your girlfriends... you still go to bed every night going over every detail and wonder what you did wrong or how you could have misunderstood.
And how in the hell for that brief moment you could think that you were that happy. And sometimes you can even convince yourself that he'll see the light and show up at your door.
And after all that, however long all that may be, you'll go somewhere new. And you'll meet people who make you feel worthwhile again. And little pieces of your soul will finally come back. And all that fuzzy stuff, those years of your life that you wasted, that will eventually begin to fade." |

I'd say depends on the source's behavour..being unrequited & clear is still better than blurry mixed signals & grey area. Either way, it sounds like a hard road. Luckily never experienced it, only unrequited lust/ crushes. |

I think it can be heart warming or bittersweet.
You want them to be happy of course, but sometimes you don’t want it rubbed in your face. That song by Yvonne Elliman - It should have been me - springs to my mind.
