Only problem with it being a roll is trying to distinguish between a product where sausages are in a breast product and sausage meat in pastry whilst ordering in Greggs.
“No, not a sausage roll. A sausage roll. Why is it so hard?” |

"Cob, were crispy like a brick difficult to get a bite of but back then in the 80s were something compared to anything now a days like most things "
You've just reminded me of the horrible stiff cobs from my school days, why were they so glazed and hard?! |

"A roll is a normal size soft roll
A bap is a large soft roll
And a cob is a crusty roll"
This sounds reasonable, but I'm still going to disagree and call everything a cob |

"It’s a bun, well it is in the North East
Unless it's a stottie
Stottie are much bigger which should be called a bun "
They're a very big bun then
I thought a bun was something you can hold in one hand, like what you'd put a burger in
Stotties would be burger buns for Desperate Dan |

A roll or a bap in my case
This always caused hell when we worked up North. I was the only one who could order food half the time because I’ve lived all over the uk.
Scotland was my favourite. I watched one of our younger lads asking for fish and chips over and over again getting more irate each time. They had no clue what he wanted because they served fish supper.
The sign by the river that says beck in Stafford caused laughter too. Southerners and South Africans think Becks a girls name. |
