I am going to be bilding a summer house ... all wood. Planning to put it on a concrete base.

Seeking advice on what thickness the base should be?

I am not a builder, but I have made shed bases.

There are online tools that can help you to work out exactly how much hard core, cement etc that you need.

About a foot (15-20cm) - obviously deeper if you are Fred West . Don't pour concrete if there is going to be a frost that night.

Portstewart

Depends on the size shape and construction method. Is it going to be on piers or is it a solid pad and what volume of traffic will be in it

About 100mm thick

Also think about how you are going to bring power in. Do you need a duct in the concrete to run the cable in

Solid pad.

3m x 3m all wood construction.

Fairly light traffic

You’ll want a good few inches if you phone a builders yard or similar they’ll talk you through it and work out what you need for the space

Make the base 3.1*3.1 (still only 1m3 required) just to allow for square and position

Dubai & Nottingham

I’ve build a few of these over the years. I’d put at least 4-5 inch of wet mix on top of 4-5 of dry compacted mix depending on size and use. Make sure to hire a whacker. Also consider putting a sheet of foam in between the two layers it mates it much warmer. Personally I’d also put a soak away and pipe through too, just to future proof in case you want a small sink and or occasional loo.

I say Fuck building regs on that lol, you know best what you want and how to do it not some idiot from the council

A field somewhere

150mm, make sure you put some visqueen down and some mesh in the bottom(supported at least 50mm off the visqueen.

I’d go at least two bodies depth, otherwise your person/concrete ratio will be all wrong

One more thing that will make it nice and also warm and save you effort. Don’t overly worry about getting the surface perfect. Just throw a tub of self levelling silicone compound on afterwards , it will cover all the imperfections , make it perfectly level and nice and warm/soft on your toes !
