Tom is no fan of the Spanish and they want to start the first octopus farm in a place dubbed the Canary Islands. The octopus will be killed by being submerged in ice and protesters are literally up in arms. What's going on here guys. It's all over the news |

"Octopi are intelligent. This is disgusting. I’m outraged. "
I concur.
But when I read the title I had visions of the octopi mooching round a field with a really wide plow, and picking carrots with all their many hands on the end of their tentacles. And now my brain has gone off into a whole little imagining of Farmer Octopus, Mrs Octopus and the family.
It's happier than the reality. |

In Greek it should be octopodes but based on use all three are correct. Language is often ‘correct’ based on common usage in vernacular |

The Forum is a university in its own right, who'd have thought it.
Personally, having watched videos on YouTube of octopuses escaping, I think the farmer may have his hands full. |

Octopi have 9 brains. For this reason it is not easy to kill them.
Octopus or "pulpo" is a traditional spanish dish like salmon in the UK. I have in the past seen Spanish fishermen beating all 8 legs on the ground to kill them. It would appear freezing them to kill them is as humane as it gets. |

If we are going to eat other living things at lest we can limit ourselves to non intelligent living things. Simple really.
Though I am lately finding myself morally uncomfortable with eating meat entirely. |

It would appear freezing is a more painful and far slower method, and highly stressful way for the creature to go out. The more human way it turns out is for a fisherman to bash them on the head. This is the quickest method apparently. Doesn't sound ideal either.

It’s not nice is it, fishes even worse , dragged out the sea and left to slowly suffocate.
There’s a restaurant in Australia, a small island in the English Channel famous for murderers and bbq, when you can bring your own road kill. I think this is the way forward, hunt your own food. |

Surely, just chop the head off? That is not going to be eaten anyway.
If the thing is that clever, won't it grow more legs for future harvesting?

Does sound inhumane.
And why octopus.
With the decline of fish stocks, squid populations have exploded to nearly destructive levels.
Can't they harvest this natural source and help nature balances too.

"The earliest cephalopods date back to the cambrian period. They predate trees and land plants. So, the earth knew tentacles before leaves"

That should make them a lot more appealing to purchasers than lacklustre fish on the slab which look like they are fit only for pig swill. |
