"It was paternal instinct, any parent would kill to save their child
Even though she's not his biological daughter. "
Correct,as a father to a daughter I sort of get the connection |

I think he did, the likelihood of any vaccine from the firefly’s organisation being accepted by the powers that be, would be unlikely at best. After episode 3 Joel completely changed how he felt about/viewed Ellie, he realised he was her protector and grew a bond with her, something he’d avoided in the first two episodes. He made a quick decision to protect someone he loves, aside from being about 30mins too short it was a top 3 episode for me. |

"aside from being about 30mins too short it was a top 3 episode for me."
It did feel like a really short episode, didn't it?
I'm just thinking of Vulcan logic "the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few." Maybe his needs were a little selfish? Ellie could have been given the choice. |

I think Joel knew she would have gone ahead if she had been given the option, the father in him wasn’t going to allow it to happen. |

They messed up on that episode. It needed a final infected scene to drive home the choice he was making. What he was condemning the world to.
Joel is NOT the hero. This is the point of the story of the game in the first place. The evolution of a parental bond which started from less than nothing to making a huge decision. It was a selfish choice, he did it for himself, more than he did it for Ellie.
There are things I obvious can not say due to season 2 spoilers. |
