I asked about 5 hours and she about fell off her chair.. lol I think its finding the exercise that works for you that is the key. Fun, mental & physical (cardio & toning benefits), stress relieving, motor skill & coordination improvement. Less stressful on the joints than jogging! So it has loads of benefits. Get your music on and its like having a little dance about . Once you have mastered the basics, there's always new skills to learn, such as doubles, triples, criss-cross. Once you have got your fitness up, start mixing HIIT training into your routine and also perform interval circuits. Also as someone else mentioned, cycling is awesome too! I'm also a qualified MIAS mountain bike leader & cycling is a fantastic non impact exercise, especially if your just starting out on your fitness regime | |||

Ta " I'll just pass on what a customer of mine, who is a Naturopath (? no, I don't either.....), explained to me a couple of months back. It's working for me... Most importantly watch your sugar intake. No more than 90gms a day - preferably 60gms. Excess sugar intake is now widely understood to be the cause of obesity - not fat intake. The level of fat intake has increased by nowhere near as much as sugar intake in the last 200 years (since processed food was invented). Replace as many cups of tea or coffee as possible with a glass of water. Tea and coffee are dioretics (think that's how you spell it) and impede weight loss. Avoid where possible anything white - bread, potatoes, etc etc due to the carbohydrate starch content. Get plenty of sleep. The old rule about calories in = calories out can be helped enormously by ensuring you sleep properly as, the last time I checked, you can't eat while you're asleep! Also, your body will still be burning calories while asleep as it still takes 1200-1500 cals a day for a man just to keep all your bits working - sleeping or awake! He also suggested one or two days per week of water fasting. I've tried that, but it's bloody hard feel great the next day, but hard all the same. Slowly working for me.... and a LOT easier than any 'diet' I have ever tried.. | |||

Everyone is different. If you were to carry on losing at the rate you did in the first six weeks, the moment you stopped it would pile back on on no time. Talk to your group leader about it - he/she will explain. | |||

As long as its going down, your heading in the right direction. Try not to concentrate on the scales, use the other tools available, such as how you feel (not out of breath as much), how your clothes feel, look in the mirror to see your body changing shape. Weight loss always comes thick and fast initially, especially if you have more to lose. 1.5 a week is a healthy weight loss, these 'lose a stone in a day' fads you see on the internet are rubbish. As its been said, your mind set is already fixed in losing a healthy weight & its proven that its more likely to stay off doing it how are you. One little tip I will give you though is that you may have hit a plateau, this is were the body becomes accustomed to the exercise that you are putting it through. It sounds like you need to mix up your routines to me. Have you done any High intensity training? Intervals? These are fantastic for really giving you a boost. You can do those on the bike ride to work too! Try different group exercise classes at the gym. DO NOT STICK TO THE ONES YOU FIND EASY OR LIKE! (most important). Yes, exercise should be fun & enjoyable so that you stick with it, but I think trying some new routines, classes and techniques will do you the world of good! And once you notice an increase, your motivation & determination will be right back on track. Keep up the great work, you'll do it! | |||

Best approach is to have at least a six months target date to review things. More Ideal to have 12 months target date. Just keep being active and eat sensibly I would say. Don't worry so much about how much you have lost every week. Don't forget that even if it seems you have not lost a lot of weight, you are converting your fat into muscle initially. Also you must be feeling better with all those cycling. It happened to me and I am really glad I did it. Now I am hooked on jugging. | |||

You've Heard: You Can't Burn Fat With Strength Training Far too many people are focused on how many calories they burn while they're in the gym, but this is shortsighted. Stop focusing on how many calories you burn in the gym and instead focus on how your body expends calories outside the gym. You burn calories throughout the day regardless of what you are doing, but exercise helps increase the rate at which you burn those calories. "So if you feel that you are too bulky, then it is important to fine-tune your diet to lose the excess fat -- not give up weight training." Women have a distinct disadvantage if the goal is to put on size. They have about one-tenth the testosterone of males, and testosterone is a key component in the muscle-building process. So even if you're working out just as hard as a man, lifting the same amount of weight and gorging on calories, you still won't see the same results with regard to muscle building. Women can, though, build muscles. Instead of big and bulky, they will be the type of long and lean muscles many women desire. You've Heard: Weight Training Limits Athleticism If your goal is to move and look like the Hulk, then feel free to continue performing body-part splits and hitting every machine in the gym. Those machines have their place, but they are not indicative of every weight-training routine. If your goal is to look, move and feel like an athlete, you need a different approach. "Elite athletes need their body to function as an efficient unit. Splitting the body into parts like legs, chest, back and biceps will not meet that goal," said Wil Fleming, performance coach and co-owner of Force Fitness and Performance. "Instead, focus on big-bang movements that utilize multiple muscle groups -- both the prime movers and the smaller stabilizers." The premise here is simple: Stop isolating body parts and pumping away mindlessly on the machines. Focus on big-bang, compound, multi-joint exercises. Hire a trainer or coach and learn how to squat, deadlift, chin and overhead press safely and effectively. The only reason your athleticism will be limited in the gym is if you follow an ineffective program or one that's designed for "show" versus "go." You've Heard: Running Is the Best Way to Get Fit It's not that running as an exercise is bad, but it puts a fair amount of stress on your muscles and joints. Recreational runners can have injuries caused by weakness in the core and hip-stabilizing muscles. All Olympic Athletes use some for of weight training in their Training to increase core Strength.The better plan is to take time to develop the muscles of your core and hips first instead of jumping off the couch and running three miles. For the hip stabilizers, start off with basic single-leg exercises like split-squats, lunges and step-ups. For the core, exercises like front planks, side planks, will help get you stronger and more stable, making you much less likely to injure yourself when you do decide to run that 5K. Some people need activities that are a bit more joint-friendly, as the pounding caused by running on a treadmill or pavement is simply too much. If you like more traditional options, a dual-action exercise bike or rower will not only engage a ton of muscles, but take some of the stress off your joints as well. If you want newer (and possibly more exciting) variations, consider kettlebell swings, medicine ball or barbell circuits, Prowler pushes, or even battling rope variations. There are many different ways to get into shape, and while running is great, it's just one option you have at your disposal. What We've Said Strength training can help you lose body fat and is likely a quicker ticket to better fitness than just plain cardio exercises. It also won't limit your athleticism, but more likely improve it, and women can derive tremendous benefit from resistance training without getting bulky. For those of you who like to run, it is one way to improve your fitness, but definitely not the only way. As with any program, though, you have to put in the work.
