Maybe. Would have been more credible if he had any idea about those affected in and around kent and recognise the need to do something. And perhaps come with some ideas to resolve rather than use his enormous following to simply dog whistle.
Whilst folks waste energy on writing endless tweets people are sti being monetised and put in danger. |

Just a thought. If thats the case (and dont disagree with the first part) isnt the "distraction" all coming from those withdrawing their Labour and making it a bigger distraction and escalating ? Do you think if they just moved on and worked as contracted, that the distraction would disappear and "they" could get back to focussing on the "real" issues as you said? The more they escalate the more they distract no? |

I could say: Either side of the arguement you are still comforming to what the media and political system wants, and to take away the idea of rebeling of the status quo. Socioty in nonsensicle as is the arguement about Gary Liniker, the systems draws people attention away from the fact that governments create these sinuation and diverts peoples attention away from the the main couses of these problems or how to truely fix these world issue. Governments a big business which make money out of grief and misery around the world.
But, I was brought up in a hippy communte by parents of the rajneesh movement so instead I will just retort that
the point is the sharp thing at the end.

Forgive me for throwing a spanner in the works but doesn't the withdrawal of labour by GL's colleagues amount to either a strike or a breach of contract?
Of course, this will not apply to GL as he was effectively suspended by his employer.
If it is a strike by GL's colleagues, there hasn't been a vote for strike action and the appropriate notice period hasn't been provided.
A breach of contract will have appropriate remedies should the employer wish to pursue them.

I think you are missing the point and underestimating the strength of feeling this has stirred in people who are fed up with the tactics of this most corrupt of governments.
This is a clear effort by this government to salvage any chance of winning the next election, they are stoking up divide and hatred amongst the electorate in a way that has been seen before in history, and Lineker rightly pointed that out.
It's not a case of supporting illegal immigration, it's exposing the vitriolic language used by many in the government when talking about the problem. |

Well this is where it gets even more complicated. Lineker has not appeared on MOTD for breaching the BBC's rules on impartiality as we all know.
However, in airing the "cut down" 20 min version on Saturday the BBC broke its own rules as it did not offer any of the contracted extras certain viewers need. I work with a lot of people with impaired sight and/or hearing and they rely on subtitles and audio commentary in order to enjoy the BBC's output. And to be fair to the Beeb for all their many faults they do excel at this.
But under their charter certainly mainstream programs like MOTD cannot be shown as it did on Saturday.
Ok... we all got to cut the Beeb a little slack as they were caught out. So did the best they could.
But - yes - the technical and legal ramifications are quite problematic when coupled with the issues you raise in your point.

The problem isn't what he said, or the BBCs reaction, it's the entitlement of people that think freedom of speech comes with no consequences. His employer thought his comments brought them into disrepute. The content is no longer relevant, or political leanings. |

A point, you or I don't elect a prime minister. The public vote for whichever party they choose and it's the Conservative party that elects a leader of the party. You or I, unless you're a party member don't have a choice of who is leader and that applies to all parties.
So, who was the first 'non elected' prime minister or perhaps you mean Gordon Brown. Incidentally it's Rishi Sunak and why can't he have a giant heated swimming pool. He is a multi millionaire and so is his wife. This has absolutely nothing to do with Gary Lineker and the BBC.
