For the record, Socrates didn't say that. It was Plato. |

There are a few things I know a good deal about, and things I know nothing about.
Not really one to blow my own trumpet as far as my knowledge goes, because there's always someone who will know more than me about some things. |

Anything Socrates is purported to have said, he didn't. If he ever wrote a word, we've got no evidence of it.
Most of what is reported as Socrates is Plato. Xenophon also wrote an apology (the genre of the quote being bandied around here). Aristophanes does too but no one seriously tries to defend that as Socrates' words, it's a comedy. |

"Criminal law
Property investment
American football
Is it illegal to buy a housing estate and convert it into a stadium for personal use and profit?"
Nope! Buy overlook at your peril the underground communities of displaced residents that will arise in the sewers, becoming ever more angry and powerful with their rat powers, eventually rising up to become a race of ratman (and lady ratman) overlords who watch us play American football for their sporting entertainment while plotting our terrifying downfall |

For me it was Orpheus and Eurydice, it’s one of my favourite stories. That and a childhood of Percy Jackson
I’m still fuming that the Louis Armstrong/Billie Holliday version of Dream A Little Dream doesn’t have Louis’ vocals on Spotify, I won’t lie |

Plato says Socrates says it. We don't actually know that. But ok, if it makes you happy.
If that's true, a student of Socrates also definitely expressed fear because Sparta was mere inches away from him, because he didn't understand scale on a map. One lauded contemporary source of the time also says that dialogues express what the author thinks should have been said, rather than what was actually said, to the extent that he knows it.
Claiming that dialogues are accurate, in this culture and period, is the height of credulousness. |
