Anything Socrates is purported to have said, he didn't. If he ever wrote a word, we've got no evidence of it.

Most of what is reported as Socrates is Plato. Xenophon also wrote an apology (the genre of the quote being bandied around here). Aristophanes does too but no one seriously tries to defend that as Socrates' words, it's a comedy.

Plato says Socrates says it. We don't actually know that. But ok, if it makes you happy.

If that's true, a student of Socrates also definitely expressed fear because Sparta was mere inches away from him, because he didn't understand scale on a map. One lauded contemporary source of the time also says that dialogues express what the author thinks should have been said, rather than what was actually said, to the extent that he knows it.

Claiming that dialogues are accurate, in this culture and period, is the height of credulousness.
