What did your folks say to you that, looking back we’re absolutely spot on.

My mom would say

“You need to have a bad time to know when you’re having a good time”

My dear old Mum said to me, when my parents split up: “It’ll be great, you can have a girlfriend in each city.”

"You can't spend your whole life being a whore.

Technically! You could narrow that down to just sleep. Combine work and being a whore.

If you really wanted to push it sleep could be removed too...

Nah, I like my actual job. And I'd hate for sex to be actual work instead of something I actively choose to do with people that excite me

I take it more as she meant slut rather than anything as professional as a whore, but that's not really in her standard vocabulary.

I can never wash up without thinking of my mum. She told me

"Never put sharp knives in the water or you'll cut yourself" when I was about 6 and it's stayed with me

An old guy said to me in a pub one time

“I wish I listened to the words of me father all those years ago”

I said “ what did he say “

He replied “ I don’t know, I wasn’t listening “

A real northern saying up here..

'shy bairns get nowt'

Translation: confidence is key

Also... 'if you keep playing with it, you'll go blind'.....

I now wear glasses

I see that phrase at least 5 times a day in my inbox. It does my head in.

Bairns who just throw a FAF in my inbox also get nowt.

I am perfectly happy with the term slut. I call myself it, and have no issues with my partners or anyone I care about calling me it.

Strangers are a different matter, but same as when someone shouts "Goth" at me on the street, they're not technically wrong, they're just being assholes about it

“There’s never right time for anything. “

Start living in moment.

Don’t exist, make something out of yourself.

You can’t trust nobody, even your own shadow.

People will always leave, you have to be immune for it, so you won’t get hurt.

My mother used to say “ugly girls like you will always have a more difficult life”.

Kind of spot on now looking back, as I live my life exactly how she didn’t want me to, and I couldn’t be happier.
