Reports that dog attacks have risen by over a third in just five years despite dog ownership rising by just 15%.
What's going on here guys. Is it the lust for aggressive breeds?

This. Dog attacks also include reported single bites too.
"attacks" on humans by dogs are mostly small terrier breeds, toy breeds, or labradors.
Most attacks on dogs by other dogs are the larger status breeds.
The thing all of these attacks have in common are clueless owners, or some dickhead wanting an aggressive status dog, so they go about bringing that side out. |

I think a lot can be put down to the Covid pet ownership boom and people failing to train and exercise their dogs. Its not the breeds that are the problem (as I bet a lot are not what people class as aggresive breeds) but the owner who ignore their responsibilites as owners |

I honestly think covid had a huge part in this. People brought dogs because they were bored, they werent trained and they weren't conditioned to be around other dogs and people.
Now they aren't necessarily getting the exercise or stimuli they need and it effects their behaviour.
It's more shit owners, not more dangerous dogs |

Was out mountain biking the other day and a dog attacked me causing me to fall off. Owner carried on picking stuff off a hedge row when confronted states they didn’t know what to do in such an event and I should have used my crystal ball and dismounted.

Definitely the owners at fault here. Get a dog and they don’t spend the time training them to behave around other people or other dogs.
Why get one in the first place if you can’t be bothered to do the basics!? |

Not just that I think some owners are too trusting of their dogs. Child starts jumping all over the top of a dog , the dog gets fed up , bites the child and the dog get classed as dangerous and is put down. It’s the owners fault. |

A friend of mine is a dog behaviour specialist. Since covid the is raking it in.
Inexperienced owners bought dogs through lockdown, those dogs didn’t learn how to mix with other dogs and people or learn good habits in the first six months after which they could be trouble for life.
She says it’s mostly labradors, dogs often chosen by people who want an “easy” dog experience. |

There’s a definite rise in the dangerous breed category.
Although nobody seems to be making a link to other factors.
How much is knife crime up, how much is gang violence up, how much is poverty up, how much is drug use up, how much is society in general suffering depravation.
My point here is that statistics like this cannot be taken in isolation.

"Folk letting their dogs off lead with no recall. If your dog doesn’t come when called and there are other dogs about, keep it on a lead."
I was out running recently, and cutting through a local park. I love dogs, I will fuss any dog given the chance, 2 dogs cane running towards me appearing friendly so I stopped running and the owner screamed at me to not fuss them as they might not like it and go for me. And they were off the lead, in a busy park, with zero recall. It's ridiculous

Its always always always alllllllwayyyys the owner at fault. A properly trained dog will do as their told. Train the owners!! The dog just wants companionship and leadership. Dont let kids dance on top of your dog… who does that??? |
