Someone asked me why international women's day is important and I wrote this . Thought I'd share it here as I'm sure it will resonate with others.

Almost daily the world tries to tell us we are not enough or, we are too much in some or many ways.

We are force fed images, quotes, stories and advice telling us to change in some way (often for the purposes of love or success) and it gets dressed up as inspiration or "help". When in actual fact it's just nonsense.

We sadly already feel at times that we are not enough or too much, we don't need the drivel to perpetuate those feelings further.

We get compared to each other all the time, we get slated for not conforming and equally we get told we are weak if we do.

Women supporting women is wonderful but actually sometimes women tear each other down harder than anyone else could.

Most days we can not do right for doing wrong in someone's eyes.

And often we get overlooked, judged and our professional decisions questioned just because we aren't men.

And don't get me started on "the pink tax".

We have come along way but still not far enough.

Happy international women's day. Let's remember how brave, strong and awesome we are, even if we don't always see it or believe it ourselves xxx

Asking for a friend...

When were you last cat-called, wolf-whistled, involuntarily groped on a crowded bus?

Asking for a friend...

When did you last read in the news about a country designing and implementing laws, rules, regulations just for your gender because they need to cover up, not be educated, do as they're told and not make decisions about their own bodies?

Asking for a friend.

Which friend?

All those male friends who will ask us today why there is a women's day when there is no men's day.

Because the answer to all those questions for me was 'just last week' and that is utterly ridiculous in the year 2023, when i was just out and about pushing a pram.

Happy women's day to all the women and men out there. Celebrate all the amazing women in your lives!

Yes.

Anyone asks me I just tell them , the history of all inequality is the history of woman’s inequality. 9000 years , You cannot separate the two. If you truly want more equal society , start with how women are treated.

Celebrating the wonder and joy of women? I'm here for it. Unashamedly.

My friend set up a very important scheme during lockdown - it's already made such an impact in the area it's concerning and I'm so proud of her. The determination, the achievement. It's inspiring.

I'm always reminded of this important writing by a brilliant feminist author -

"We raise girls to see each other as competitors not for jobs or accomplishments, which I think can be a good thing, but for the attention of men."

I think on a site like this that especially rings true at times - I know my behaviour in the past hasn't always been the best - I'm far too used to getting what I want and not always thinking about others. We lean into believing that we can't rejoice in another's vaginal antics, that it somehow lessens us. Diminishes our shine because another is shining.

But today? Now?

I'm going to celebrate the beauty of other women. On the forums I might not see eye to eye with all the women ever. Of course not, let's be honest, I'm a bit of a dick. It doesn't mean that they're any less. That I can't admire them, their qualities.

There's so much to celebrate today.

The inspirational work ethics, the chaotic absurdities, the sheer horndogging brilliance of some. The empathy, the way a woman straightens your crown with a simple hug or daft message. The beauty of women. The striving for better. The intelligence frequently displayed on here. At work. In life.

"

What the fucks the pink tax ."

The pink tax refers to the tendency for products marketed specifically toward women to be more expensive than those marketed toward men.

For example I buy mens razors etc as the female equivalent are always generally more expensive, and also let's not forget the controversial tampon tax making a basic need for women simply unaffordable for some..... but I digress.

Everything said by posters above I completely agree with xx
