I'm in an office environment with women. The only guy there.
If I make mistake s etc.. miter curses. One complaint against me is that they feel uncomfortable.
If I wear something like an elastic band on my wrist will that help?
A reminder? I was thinking a post it note on my PC with a face with a zip on the mouth. |

I've been told off for this before.
My advice.
Try and substitute words if you must say something, make sure its inoffensive.
Otherwise try and keep your trap shut.
I've mastered eye rolling and saying stuff in my head.

Could you try raise it as a joke/team effort rather than have the awkwardness that you and they know they're complaining about you? Like 'sorry guys, I'm trying to tone it down, let's start a swear jar and you can dig me when I slip up' |

Our household has adopted the phrase "oh biscuits" (thanks, Bluey  ) Try using words that begin with the same letter as the swear word, e.g. I say "oh, for flippity-flop's sake" when I'm around our daughter. I still feel kind of like I've got my "issue" out. Although, at work, away from the students or public spaces, we do swear like troopers....... |

I swear a lot however you can control yourself, it's just a change of not being so relaxed in the environment you're in. I work in hospitality so in front of Guests I will say 'Oh sugar plums' , back of house I will say 'oh fuck off bunch of cunts'

What are the policies?
I worked somewhere years ago and someone complained about my swearing. Turns out they were a JW and didn't like that I'd said, "Oh my god."
Next time the manager was in our office I complained about all of my colleagues swearing "like a bunch of cunts." |

Speak to your doctor if you think you may have a medical reason for your excessive swearing in the workplace.
If it turns out you have a condition then your workplace will legally be required to make reasonable adjustments such as buying your colleagues ear defenders. |

Just type yourself a fake sick note from your GP saying you have tourettes.
Then take it to your manager and HR and tell them to fuck off and shove it up their arses.
That should make it appear completely believable.

Personally, I think it's a sad reflection of modern society that "swear words" have become part of "normal" speech. They should be reserved for special occasions, otherwise they lose their impact.

What makes you think cursing throughout the day is acceptable? Office environments generally are much more politically correct these days.
Try taking a breath before speaking if something is right.
If you're in a probationary period you need to be careful. |

As an employer I would treat this seriously.
You would be given the appropriate warnings and offered help to overcome your problem but ultimately if you didn’t change your socially unacceptable behaviour you’d be looking for alternative employment.
The ball is firmly in your court on this. |

I've worked in offices pretty much all my career, it's usually expected that people will moderate their language. Other people might be on the phone, there could be a visitor or a colleague from another department visiting. I only worked in one place where someone swore a lot and she was eventually disciplined. Nearly everyone swears at some point but in my opinion excessive swearing isn't acceptable.

Think it has, I've stuck a very small bit of post-it note on the bottom of screen with an "X" written on it. Not noticeable and a bit cryptic too but reminds me not to swear. I also used to talk to myself when remembering a number to write down, but stopped that too incase they think I'm muttering a swearword.
Only swore quietly, once on Wednesday, and once on Thursday, both occasions I dropped paperwork and apologised if they overhead me.
I was going to explain I say numbers out loud to remember them to note down in a notepad and not muttering swear words they might think I'm being sarcastic to them so didn't.
Ok so far fingers crossed...

Only at work.. hate my job so much, I'm not going to go back, until I see the pay in my account, and also pass the god awful job centre seems to dissuade me from packing job in |

50 to 100 per shift is normal for me to, it's just me, I've worked in an office before and depends on your family, parents and how you speak around those then maybe try that "around family" approach.
If you swear around your family then you're fucked, a swear jar will cost you more than your daily wage so change jobs |

Is there any way you can all discuss this and find a way to work together if not in a cordial way at least being able to communicate and without otracising you? |

I swear constantly at work, I work in a very male dominated environment, there is me a 6 blokes, political correctness is none existent. I had to spend a night in a hotel this week and my boss actually asked if I had my safety knickers on!!! |

Scalded hand with boiling water : "ya bastard" etc ...
Called the printer a bitch when jammed up numerous times .. all good so far though.. just once per day but getting it to zero.. wish me luck |

If they swear too, write it down every time they do so - name, date and time. If you get enough evidence over a given period of time, submit a grievance to your boss for sexual discrimination in the workplace. |

There is a difference between someone swearing in conversation and soneone cursing hundreds of times a day.
But it shows they just need you to moderate not eliminate the behaviour which will be easier |

Its just in some peoples upbringing eg kids start swearing because its their first steps at being a rebel along with smoking and being cheeky and that continues into adulthood also it would appear if you are Scottish its just part of the language. |

Not out of the doghouse yet though by a long way I reckon.
Friend suggested I buy em chocolates etc.. but would look disingenuous.. let sleeping dogs lie I reckon..
