Hmmmmmm
He was out in '87 and then went back in because he was involved in planning another robbery.
I can't find anything that says he ever hurt a member of the public.
He did hold prison officers captive in his cell .... and a teacher and other prisoners. Can't find anything that says he harmed them though.
I'd say yes he should be released. Unless you say he's going to live next door to me and then NO he shouldn't be released. |

The law is fucked up. Pedos r4pists and even people who have done murder get released.
If feel I'd have more done to me for a motoring offence than the sentences some people get.

I can see he harmed people inside...
One of them 'Horley' made sexual advances toward him ..... maybe that offended his 1985 macho ego .... who knows but it doesn't seem that he just attacks people at random.

He is now Charlie Salvadore
Should he be released?
Depends if he has met the requirements for parole. But as with most in prison there is no real rehabilitation programme. I know it’s a punishment and not all can, or want to be rehabilitated.
However if we stopped the cycle it would work out far cheaper than keeping a growing prison population. If I’m right in the UK it’s about a 30% reoffending rate that is almost 1 in 3 will end up back there. Obviously it don’t work may not seem a high number but having visited jails in this country I wouldn’t want to spend one night there let alone large portions of my life.
I also agree some should never be released.
Most of Charlie’s comes have been committing while in prison, against what he sees as bad treatment etc. I also agree he does have some issues and is not for want of a better term a nutter.
Should he be out at 70. His last outing in 1993 lasted 16 days. His one before that 1992 53 days and 1988 69 days. So since 1974 he has spent a total of 138 days as a free man. That is 138 days out of 49 years not even half a year.
Mind you now he is worth quite a bit does he need to commit crime? His artwork goes for a few grand, his royalties from his books the man is probably a multi millionaire. This is not including what he’s get for TV and interviews now. At least this way he’d be keeping himself and not a burden to us.

I'm on paragraph one of the wiki page.... Jesus ...
He has attacked a lot of people ..

A murderer
Someone who grassed on him
Someone who tried to have sex with him ...
etc etc etc.....
He's a fighter that's for sure. |

Gary Gliter was released a few week back from Portland and he abused kids for fucks sake. Also traded kiddie porn. In my opinion much worse. |

His story is rather “tragic” in a way. He was originally jailed for armed robbery I think (when he was 20 or something), he just couldn’t keep his head down in prison and actually received more custodial years for what he did in prison, than what he did outside prison.
Now let’s be honest, he was a bank robber, but his anger management issues are what makes him dangerous, and his lack of acceptance of the words “no” or “you can’t”. I’m no professional but it seems such a wasted life and perhaps an indictment on the prison system and it’s failings |

I think you are right, there are clearly a lot of issues and a prison system that has only aggravated them rather then rehabilitated. But on the recent documentary I felt he lacked remorse or insight in to what he'd done, he seemed if anything proud of his actions |

Nah the system has fucked the guy. At his parole hearing he was saying all the things he shouldn't be saying.
There's not a hope in hell he's getting out, there's so much money to be made for him on podcasts and tv that they won't take the risk giving a lunatic access to that much money |

He's probably unlikely to go round committing burglaries and post office robberies anymore.
But I suppose two questions to ask are, what if in one year he decides it was a mistake, he's institutionalised and wants to go back in, will he commit a crime, and what crime, to land himself back inside
And second question, he's relaxing outside his caravan on the coast, enjoy a lovely summers day, until some loudmouth comes along and starts mouthing off to him, what would his reaction be? |

"After 50yrs in prison with the lack of adjustment that goes with it, all it needs is some yoof to banter him or a someone wanting to be billy big balls and it's a squashed head and he's back in. "
That's what I was saying to someone yesterday. After 50 years he's going to be institutionalised. If he did get out there is going to be someone who will have a go at him. Just so theybcan say "they took on Bronson", and it's not going to end well for both. Personally I think he should be kept in for his own safety.

Sorry, but when there’s people out here who have committed far worse crimes than him, then yes, I think he should be released under licence with conditions. However, I think he should be moved to an open prison first, and reintegrated into society in controlled environments.

If he gets out load's of wannabes are always going to frontin up to him.
I doubt he'd get much privacy.
An open prison for a few years see how he gets on then quietly released into monitored accommodation.
He's done his time surely it's time to let him find peace and free space up for others. |

Yes makes some space for someone who should be in there. He's going to live out the rest of his life with book deals and tv interviews, and his entourage at his house I would however tag him for life as a condition for his release |

But keeping someone in jail for what they might do right? They may not do it either?
If a person has committed a crime they do the time, this indeterminate bollox is wrong I grew murder should carry a life sentence there should be the chance of parole in some cases and some should never be let out.
But I feel people like Gliter, Hall, Harris, etc pose far more of a threat. They prayed on children with impunity for decades. How many lives have they affected? Yet they will all walk free if not already free.
We lock up people in prison who have physiological problems they don’t get treatment or help.
Whose fault is it he’s so notorious? It’s not for the crimes he committed, it’s not that he was a criminal mastermind. Again it the media and there hunt to fill pages tv hours on a dull day. We have fed the beast and created it. |
