Had a nice doner kebab and chips the other day...it was lush.

What did you get from the chip shop?

Usually cod and chips with a pot of curry.

Occasionally I'll have a minced beef and onion pie.

I tried one of their pies with chips and beans the other day. Not as nice as I'd hoped. Will probably stick with fish or chicken in future.

The last time we went to the chip shop we had donner kebab and orange chips. Was very much needed as we were just back from holiday and knackered. Though my husband had to go back as they forgot the salad on the kebab

It's the opposite for us. Our local chippy has a sign up saying if you want non battered chips you have to ask and they'll cook them specially for you, but you'll have to wait. But the orange ones are better anyway

It’s the whole thing, fella.

One of those cheap, frozen, supermarket pizzas. The ones that come in multipacks. Whole thing battered and dropped in the fish fryer. (Or half of one, you can buy half-pizza suppers.)

I need to translate that as well, don’t I? ‘Supper’.

In Scotland, fish and chips is a fish supper. Pizza and chips is a pizza supper. Smoked sausage and chips is a smoked sausage supper. You get the idea.

I was near Birmingham recently when I last visited a chip shop and my mate and I had the special which was chips with sausage a fish cake and mushy peas and two cans of pop. The whole lot didn't come to £8.

In some of the chip shops where I live, I'd be lucky to get change back out of a twenty.

I like the scraps you can get up tit north and the battered black puddings I've seen in all the chip shops I visited when I was in Scotland. You never see that anywhere in Wales and I haven't seen it down south of England either.

Last time I was up north my breakfast came with spam. Never come across that either, but very nice.

I miss whole battered black pudding I used to get when we lived in Scotland.

Many years in the North East and I still shudder every time I see those crispy bits they chuck on top of chips. Absolutely rank stuff.

Overall though my favourite is just the chips. Tub of curry sauce and I'm a happy man

My local chip shop doesn't do kebabs - doesn't even do burgers anymore. Much more your traditional chip shop.

They do do a lovely half rack of ribs though - yum

We've got enough Kebab shops around here anyway - one in the next parade of shops up from the chippy, so no point really the chip shop trying to compete
