Ok I just rewatched it and it's a cheat. The 3 gallon one apparently only had 2 gallons in it so they just had to pour the 5 gallon one into the 3 gallon until it was full (1 gallon) leaving 4 in the 5 gallon one |

Well it all depends on the tolerance that Simon set on the scales- 10%, not too tricky, 0.1 percent and you might need to go to the pop up laboratory shop for a few supplies or just let him blow the fucking school up and put it down as a shit day at work  |

It's not a cheat. You get the two gallons into the 3 gallon one by filling up the 5 gallon one and pouring it into the 3 gallon one.
You're left with 2 gallons in the 5 gallon one.
You then empty the 3 gallon one and pour the 2 gallons in the 5 gallon one into the 3 gallon container.
