A mixture of starters like marinated and stuffed olives, cold meat selection, and grilled vegetables dressed in olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
I would be inclined to make 2 main courses for peeps to choose, like beef and chicken.
Again, two desserts, like an Eton Mess and chocolate mousse or Tiramisu.

You need to have a focal food point which you can base all your other dishes around. The centre of attention if you like. I recommend chips. A hearty food that goes with absolutely anything. Easy to prepare, extremely tasty and a real head turner |

If I were to have a dinner party at mine, it would be a mixture of hot and cold starters, cold ones would be the ones I mentioned earlier, and hot ones would be those lovely frozen asian ones I can get from the likes of Aldi's and Lidl's.
I would do a hot buffet for mains, with an oriental pork stew, a lamb curry, a stir-fried chicken dish, with cooked rice and stir-fried vegetables.
Desserts would be a choice of chocolate mousse, Tiramisu, or Eton Mess.
However, that is not going to happen, as I can't be arsed to tidy my house to receive guests!

A less fancy option that goes down really well in groups of 4-6 is a big pot of chilli con carne. Do a big bowl of rice, some taco shells, some iceberg lettuce and maybe tomatoes, a few types of grated cheese and a few hot sauces etc, some sort of sour cream type sauce.
The big advantage is you can have virtually all of it ready an hour or two before you serve, so you can spend more time with the guests and less in the kitchen. |

As a starter I love mushrooms in port on Melba toast (homemade)
Can't beat Salmon but I love it cubed and marinated in Thai green marinade, sprinkle with a touch if brown sugar and grill until golden and serve with jasmine rice and baby broccoli. Reduce the marinade and add coconut milk to serve.
Pudding would have to be something rich and chocolatey like a mouse with something tart like a raspberry coulis
Yummy |
