Wasn’t called swinging then, but absolutely did happen.

Look at the bohemians and similarly non conventional people at that time. Polyamorous situations and relationships as well as homosexual ones were very much part of that lifestyle, though discretion was key due to the laws and societal norms of the time.

Though there’s a long long history of non monogamy in human experience, certainly not a modern phenomenon at all.
