I'm a 90s kid and I was in primary school when the internet was first invented so didn't really use online messaging (MSN) ETC but talking to people face to face was so much more relaxed and easy. But I feel that nowadays talking to people online or Evan face to face is much more difficult. For example replying to a message straight away gets you branded as desperate or talking to somebody face to face and asking how they are gets you branded as a weirdo. What do you guys think? X

I'm a 60s kid. I don't find it more difficult face to face and don't brand people according to how quickly they respond to messages. I'm do realise that I probably mix with people whose main experience of socialising is pre-internet though.

I do think that there's a culture of blaming internet and social media use in particular for all the social difficulties people experience nowadays and maybe it's true. However I also think that we're in a period of change in the way social interaction takes place and the generations that follow us will all think it's normal

I agree. Don’t even think about that rubbish, just be authentic, but be careful and don’t be creepy , it’s easy to be stereotyped if your a man and older and/or asian , unfortunately, you gotta at least be aware of that.

I think you are over thinking some bits.

Back when the internet was younger, everyone using it was considered a nerd or a dangerous predator living in their mums basement.

People have always been funny buggers!

We all move with the times and some embrace change easier than others. As long as everyone is considerate to each other, that is what matters. As for example when people advocate using cards and abandoning cash totally when for some that might inappropriate or even impossible. Not every octogenarian has, wants or even can use a card - others too. As for face to face communication, it is of course a human necessity which we need to encourage wherever possible for our own well being

It's 25 years since the internet went public and it makes the number of events of communication during a day phenomenally high and that's all really.

It is not harder to talk to people face to face. It's less likely, less needed , less effort than it used to be. It was just as hard to speak face to face 25 years ago , in fact i'd argue even more so.

People were less experienced in expressing themselves and unlike today .... not everyone thought they were THE EXPERT on everything from ant farming to neurobrainsurgery.

I digress..... 25 years ago you might sidle up to a female in a club or such maybe once per week .... twice if you were a real lad about town ....

These days ...... you 'look at women' every few seconds and initiate conversation umpteen times in a day .......

They psychological effects of that are astronomical.

Change the way you think about yourself a bit and stop sticking nails in your own coffin everytime someone says.'not my type' ..... ( which doesn't always mean that anyway - it can mean... I lack confidence, my husband doesn't know im on here, i've got no clothes to wear, the kids are crying, i've ballooned etc etc )

Make up your mind before messaging, that if you get a no ...... that it's because of a myriad of reasons and it is not a reflection on you.

Stop looking for affirmation from others and just like yourself.

P.S. Cut down on the messages... they've got too many calories.

I don't give it much thought. I'm a child of the 60s and 70s and flakey people existed then too.

I still had dialup when I created a FB account in 2011 and I don't use social media at all now.
