RIP to him. What an iconic figure of the game. One of those you couldn't sa a bad word about.
As for those above being so disrespectful to others who are showing their respect, you should be embarrassed by yourselves |

"Lincolnshire lad, so extra condolences to his family.
Expect to see his iconic Hereford v Newcastle FA cup commentary repeated a few times. "
He was a Salford lad wasn't he? |

MOTD with my Dad, every Saturday night it was the only time we bonded. Occasionally he’d pass me some of his apple he was peeling with a knife. When he went to the toilet I’d have a sneaky drink of his whisky.
Motty always reminded me of those nights. As he’d always do the big matches and the interviews afterwards, legendary one with Fergie
So he was part of my childhood his sheepskin coat, knowledge of the game and came across as a genuinely nice guy as well. So I’ll miss him occasionally turning up on some programme. My childhood seems to be a long time ago.
RIP Motty, thanks for the memories |

I’m not a footie fan and rarely see any these days but the fact that even I could pick out his voice on a radio commentary or recognise him on screen by his famous sheepskin is testament to how truly iconic he was.
There are only a few commentators or become as recognisable as the sport they commentate on.
Harry on the boxing.
Murray on F1
And Motty on football
They became institutions in themselves. |

And I suppose we should mention Ken Wolstenholme who delivered the most memorable commentary in the history of English football. |

Highly disrespectful.
I'm a woman who is a football fan. John Motson was THE voice of the beautiful game and it's a very sad day today. It's nice to know that he passed peacefully and wish his family all the best as they mourn his loss.
A very sad day for football. |
