I'm surprised they would even raise it now since the vote went against women bishops.
It is strange to suggest that someone in a civil partnership should abstain from sex with their partner.
I'd be happy to see both gay and women bishops. |

even as a none believer i think it does matter to us as a society tbh..
as the 'established church' they have a vote in the upper house, how can they vote on 'us' and creat law when they represent an organisation which is inherently unequal and discriminatory..? |

I know that civil partnerships doesn't always mean that it is with your sexual partner but I think it's odd to suggest that you can be in a civil partnership and become a bishop as long as you promise not to have sex with your partner (or anyone else). |

There has been speculation about when we might have our first black Prime Minister, in the wake of Mr Obama across the pond.
Personally I think it would be more of a milestone if we were to elect the first Atheist/Humanist (call it what you will) PM or - perish the thought! - have a Monarch who was openly Atheist. A saying which includes the words 'cat' and 'pigeons' comes to mind...
Can't see it happening though... but then, even Rome eventually fell...

I believe that when such a time comes that our leaders are made up of atheists it will also be a time when the existence of God has been disproven and religion will be in the realms of quacks, cranks and weirdos.
For the moment, it suits humanity to have some form of religion providing the moral backbone that without it society would descend into chaos and anarchy. We're simply not ready to be told that God doesn't exist. |

It just underlines to me how out of touch - and therefore irrelevant to me - the established church is in this country. The most surprising thing is that anyone still pays any attention to what they think. It's a dinosaur in its death throes. |

religions are an anachronism, their views and beliefs do not stand up to logical examination.
As Wishy said, if we one day had an aetheist monarch, that would be interesting to say the least, However as Henry formed the Anglican church it would be appropriate that another monarch disbanded it?

Celibate really only means unmarried. It came to mean 'not having sex' when there was the presumption that only married people had sex.
Clearly this has never applied to clergy. |

Sort sighted moralistic fools come to mind for the CofE hierarchy. Its their choice but if religious crews wish to survive in their hood they need to adapt.

Just before Saturnalia I made a point of watching the three programmes about Westminster Abbey on BBC2 and couldn't help the thought running through my mind all the time .... "What if all this were to be proved to be built on a lie..? What would all these people who have given everything to the service of 'God', do..?"
Brought it home just how much of our society - well, our whole society tbh - is built on what is in a book, written 30+ years after the death of the main character, which we only know about thanks to a guy called Saul, who changed his name to Paul when he 'appeared' out of the desert and started to tell stories about a bloke called Jesus..
Keep wondering if it's just me....????
