Hi all, I've been on Statins for just over two weeks and noticed my erections have become harder and bugger.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Sorry to go off on a tangent.

Can we ask if anyone tried to improve their chlorestoral levels themselves before going on statins x

High cholesterol isn't just about diet it's massively to do with genetics.

Cholesterol is naturally occurring in the body without it we would die, some people naturally produce more than required.

Combined with a bad diet and parents with high cholesterol it's statin time.

My partner is on Atorvastatin to lower his cholesterol. He's not changed in the erection department. He's also not buggered anyone/anything.

OP was the buggering instinctive? Like the meds were making you do it? Or did you just not want to waste a good stiffy?

Yes I did a couple of years ago. Changed to a more healthy diet and chlorestoral went down. .it went back up a bit last year when I started eating the wrong foods again..

I’ve been on statins for a while now, I think I’d be more than a little concerned if I started get erections again

I've gone on statins today for the first time ever. The usual advice is to cut back on full fat dairy, alcohol and salt and increase exercise.

I haven't had dairy in 10 years and I've never tasted alcohol and I walk miles every week so there aren't really a lot of dietary changes left which is why I had to go on them.

I've been on them for a couple of years and they've done next to nothing apart from causing me a LOT of muscular (I assume it's muscular, it feels like it) pain in my shoulders and upper arms.

Drs don't seem to care.

It’s possible as “Statins reduce cholesterol and improve blood flow for all arteries. These include those in the penis”

Ivw been on then for years and can't say I've noticed anything positive of negative. Likewise the blood thinners and beta blockers that I'm on.

There are quite a few different reasons someone's chlorestoral is high. Yes, it can be hereditary but being overweight, no excercise, smoking, alcohol, stress etc can also be factors, many of which can be changed.

I've recently been diagnosed with high blood pressure and been having blood tests regularly as still trying to get my medication right. My chlorestoral levels have never been a concern until my last blood test so still learning how it all works.

The medication I've been put on for my BP can cause high chlorestoral, so need to speak to my GP about that.

Making changes and going to monitor levels for a little while.

This is my worry. I have joint hyper mobility and arthritis, so already suffer a lot of joint / muscular pain x

I've just had to come off my third different statin in less than 3 months.

10 days into taking each one the muscle pains have been so relentless it prevents me from working or walking and a week after that my guts are in bits with severe cramps and literally complete nights spent in the bathroom.

As I said in a previous post above, I don't tick any of the normal boxes for someone with high cholesterol and further lifestyle changes aren't an option but I'd rather live with high cholesterol then any of the issues caused by statins.

There are a lot of people who feel the same as you, statins seem to be one to avoid unless absolutely necessary

I’ve never heard of this side effect of statins, and I’m pretty well versed in medications (job). It could be psychological, but who knows. Take it as a positive

I was prescribed statins for high cholesterol. After reading the list of possible side-effects I decided I was safer not taking them.

I've changed diet a bit but don't know if it's helped yet.
