I do accounts and I have seen people trading their vehicles in and actually receiving money back as their trade in was so good. (obviously dependant on if you're down grading vehicles etc).

"20 year old car's going for almost 3k !!
And im not talking classic cars just run of the mill one's."
We bought a 19 year old 4x4 last year. £2k
Compared to what else we'd seen was a bargain. My daily driver has nearly hit 200k but like fuck will I trade it in. Its getting run til it dies. Stupidly economical and £30 tax. Dull, uninspiring and a shit heap but it still moves.

Yeah it's ridiculous - I see 15yr old bangers going for 1000's
Luckily when my kids were at the first car stage you could get a good car for £400-£500 quid, no chance now!
Oddly the gas guzzlers are cheap (in comparison) my boss just picked up a tidy land cruiser for less that what you can pick up an old ford focus for!
I had Mercedes phone me out the blue the other day offering me 6k more than what I paid for my van a year ago! |

On the politics forum about the ULEZ charge. There were some posts saying .People should just change their vehicle to one that does not incur the new charge. I put on there if those people could actually afford to buy . As say monthly repayments. With bills being so high at present. ? |

Get her a bike for short distances and a bus pass for something a bit further
On a serious note... Not always, but sometimes you get a good deal from someone who used their car as a taxi. It's generally got a lot of miles on but if its from a reputable taxi company and not a small company that doesn't care, then the owners usually have to make sure they look after their cars so they pass certain tests (other than MOT) to make sure their still suitable..... I know a certain company up here that tests the cars every year and I think you can only have them on as a taxi for a max 3 to 6 yrs and because of miles usually they go cheap but still really good runners and we'll looked after...
Prob is insurance... You don't get many ex taxis that are 1.1ltr etc and usually diesel. |

When I went looking dealers wouldn't knock a pound off the asking price. They were like, take it or leave it.
It wasn't that long ago you coupd haggle and they would always come back with a better price.
The dealers I visited were asking the same money for second hand Mercedes as they were in the Mercedes agents. Small independent garages use to be cheaper, not any more. |

Car prices have plateau'd a fair bit lately, and with the 2025 and 2030 deadlines looming, some are saying ICE will climb, but I think ice will fall as people clamber to buy new in 2024 before hybrid is enforced (if it gets enforced).
First car, go real old banger style, old Japanese like a Jazz or an Aygo. |

Far too much! When my adapted clutch failed and I had to hire an auto with big boot space for the wheelchair, it was minimum £200 a week. Why aren't train stations accessible?!?! |

Whatever anyone does, don't go diving in after a Ford with a 1 litre EcoBoost (aka EcoBOOM!!) engine with the disintegrating wet belt syndrome that blocks the oil system & destroys the engine. Little wonder Ford have shelved all their Fiesta & Focus models after destroying their own reputation.
The subject even has it's own Facebook group apparently!
And all to save a few measly percent of CO2 emissions yet kill a car prematurely leaving behind a huge carbon footprint. |

We’ve had 7 of these in our family and not had a day’s trouble with any of them, I suspect it’s many not sticking to to the correct service intervals. The new 1.0s use a chain not a belt too. |

I was offered more for my second hand car than what I paid for it at the dealer with an additional 40k miles on it, it’s gone bonkers. (To replace mine however with a model 2 years old and 20k on the clock, which is what mine was when I bought it, was double the price, so not changing) |

New car prices are crazy as well.
Was thinking of changing my car as its not caz for Birmingham but will cost alot more than paying the caz charges.
My car is road tax free so I just avoid entering Birmingham as much as possible and shop elsewhere or use the bus. |

It seems the used bike market has gone silly as well. I was looking at a TL1000s a year ago, they were going for between £1000 and £1500. They are above £3000.
So much for getting a cheap runaround. |

The tables have turned so that the negotiating is no more. Car dealers are struggling to buy stock as much as the the public is. So when they have something they aren’t going to give it away for silly low “cash” offers.
In reality most car dealers make their money from part exchanges especially at the moment when stock is so scarce and from finance.
So many deluded people due to excessive webuyanycar advertising that think “being a cash buyer with no finance” is a good thing when unfortunately it puts you in the worst possible negotiating position |

Following the whole pandemic thing, there has been an issue within the motor industry in respect of the supply of chips - no, not the potato ones.
Cars have so many computer modules in them these days, the demand for these components is higher and there has been supply issues.
As a result, this has had an impact on new car availability and therefore sales and so this has had a ripple effect on used car prices as buyers who would usually go for a brand new car are instead going for nearly new |

Sorry your missing my point, the perception webuyanycar give you with their adverts is that if your a cash buyer you can march into a dealership and straight away “save hundreds on your next car” when infact many main dealers make sub £500 on the metal so they simply can’t afford to discount their prices they are more inclined to offer someone a deal who is taking finance and trading a car in as that’s where the true profit margin in |

A dealer near me is selling a 2006 Peugeot 206 for just over 3k

I got my daughter a VW Polo when she passed, 12 years old, less than 40K miles, fully serviced £6K from a small trusted dealer who only sells VW & BMW never had a single issue. This company is run by retired F2 drivers selling cars to 4 generations of the sane families, I’d look for a company like that you can trust and pay a bit more |

Yeah we was very close to buying a civic last year.
Having previously owned one for 15 years and 250k we thought it would be a no brainer.
Until I stumbled upon some information relating to the 1ltr engine.
Other than the above mentioned also to change the timing belt/chain you have to remove the entire engine at a cost of around £3000+
Due to it's design.
So basically when they get to 80k they are basically worthless unless you really want to fork out that amount for a repair on most car's would be around £300.! |

"If car prices drop, a lot of people are going to blow their balls off "
I was chatting with a dealer yesterday who was saying how crazy it is and it's why they keep stock levels low.
He pointed out a car that they wouldn't have paid more than £700 for a couple of years ago they paid close to £2000 up for sale@ £2500.
They are waiting for the bubble to burst and end up with stock in negative equity.
So I guess it's not just buyer's who are suffering. |

Silly prices for cars made in the 80s and 90s."
I might be wrong, but I read somewhere the old classic cars are tax exempt. Plus exempt from some of the emissions rules and charges, as they were built prior to the emissions standards being put in place. |

On Friday while out. I had notification on car saying sat-nav maps need update. As I was passing dealership where car purchased , serviced etc from. I called in.
While waiting to be seen, was looking at new cars. The sales manager who I know thru a shared hobby. Saw me and asked if interested in buying new one. Informed him about ‘offer’ , but said not interested . Did ask about what was price now of new vehicle , same as mine.
He informed me that the manufacturer no longer was selling diesel or petrol engines in UK. Mine is diesel. Stopped last year. Only hybrid or EV. Also may not be doing hybrid . This will depend on decision about distance hybrid can do on battery to comply with emission laws. ( no figures yet )
So can see if other manufacturers are doing same. Then prices for second hand vehicles are going to get higher . |
