Out of all the DIY jobs that you need to do in your own home, which ones do you not mind doing or which ones will you ALWAYS get a professional in to do?

I'll do most things. However there are a few I'll always get a professional

Plastering - no way I can do it to the same standard.

Anything to do with gas I'll get a professional, the consequences of it going wrong are too much

I can do electrics but everything else is a no-no.

And, I don't mind who does it but as long as their van is displaying a Royal Warrant then it's all good.

I do like to build stuff.

I don't mind plastering, but never done a full wall.

Mr, only if it involves oil, greese and an engin.

I have no practical skills whatsoever and no desire to address that.

I have people for such things.

Plastering is the only thing I'm reluctant to have a go at, definite skill thats learnt over time, i have tried it but results weren't the best

I am fine with painting but prep work is best left to my mate who is a pro. Lounge wall needed skimming and filling so he did a great job doing just that.

Electrics and gas are the main ones to get a man in (but must admit all the 'heating engineers' recently have been a total waste of space).

It depends how big any of the jobs are really…

Iv tiled and grouted a porch but I wouldn’t do a whole bathroom.

Il replace old pipe work under a sink etc which I did last week.

I’d replace a light fixture, paint, wallpaper, sand etc but I can’t build things so I’d need professionals for big jobs.

Can't touch gas. Basic plumbing and electrics only. Won't do plastering, but will have a crack at most other tasks. I do like laying laminate/vinyl plank flooring as you see results fast.

Fortunately (I suppose) I'm qualified in gas and domestic electric, taught myself to lime plaster and can cope with most things except roofs (don't like heights anymore) so I got a roofer to do mine.

Painting and decorating including wallpapering, most joinery jobs, minor electrical and plumbing jobs.

Only ever call a professional if it's more than a minor fix.

I'll tackle most things. Had a stab at plastering once. I'm ok on patching up small bits, but for complete walls, I'll leave that to the professionals.

Legally not allowed to do gas and wouldn't want to. Certain regulations eclxist for a reason.

I'm competent enough with electrics, but had abprofessional in last year for some external wiring as it's notifiable

I prefer getting a sparky in however Mr fitted a new electric shower yesterday and nobody has died yet so I might allow him to do some more electrics in the house. As long as he tests it vigorously first.

I do all the building of things. I remember one year.. Christmas eve, 6 months pregnant and I got a double bed and two double wardrobes inc interiors built.

My brothers did come and help (because I don't trust my husband with building) - but it was only to lift things for me.

This.

Although I went and did a night course on plastering, I could never quite get the standard of finish I wanted, and as I used to have a guy that would do it for £60 per day plus material (cash in hand before the pubs opened on a Saturday ) it wasn’t worth the effort!

Gas, obviously, is lethal stuff and you need the magic piece of paper to touch the pipe of potential warmth or doom with a spanner. I’m pretty decent with plumbing, but I’m not touching the stinky fire pipe!

Anything to do with gas, elllectrics I'll swap out a light fitting but that's the edge of my comfort zone.

Rest as long as I have or can borrow the tools I'll give it a crack.

I used to say 'necessity might be the mother of invention, but poverty is the father of skill',.I can do most things now, but I steer away from electrical stuff nowadays because I believe there's now rules in place about who can do things like adding spur sockets etc.
