I don't know about Vera but Taggart was called Detective Chief Inspector. "

Inspector Lebel, portrayed by Michel Lonsdale, in the original Day of the Jackal film from 1973: intuitive, tenacious, experienced and clearly respected by the upper echelons of the French government and the Gendarmerie in Paris. |

Fat Barry from St Helens. He's not on telly, he's on TikTok, and, together with his fellow Toktectives, he's currently trying to crack the Nicola Bulley mystery by planting fake clues, digging random holes, and running around like a cunt for the entertainment and amusement of all the wankers on social media.
Poirot, eat your heart out.

In no particular order:
Inspector Montalbano,
Inspector Aurelio Zen played by Rufas Sewell,
Kurt Wallender played by Krister Henriksson (and not the awful English version),
The original team of "New Tricks",
Inspector Foyle, and
Sam Spade played by Humphrey Bogart.

I'm a highly accomplished detective myself and the internet, over the last 20 years, has been a boon to people like me, with very inquisitive minds who just thrive on data and sources of esoteric information. |

"Columbo "
No contest.
The best tv cop ever, had it smashed in minutes and then set about the cat and mouse game.
Turned all tv cop shows on their head by revealing the murderer at the start of the programme. |

"Has to be Columbo for me"
I think you'll enjoy Poker Face. They've taken the Columbo premise and managed to make it fresh and modern without losing the best part, you will be right at home from the start as they use the same fonts and colour in the opening credits as they did in Columbo. There are new quirky characters every week, it's great to have a show that is fun and interesting to watch but also has a satisfying conclusion every week. |

Miss Marple, as portrayed by Margaret Rutherford in the Murder films, Murder She Said, etc., was brilliant, as was the film's famous theme tune.
Her partner, Stringer Davis, for a part in every one of her films and they enjoyed a convivial but very unusual relationship.
Stringer was bisexual, and Margaret, both of whose parents were bipolar, said she would not have any offspring for that reason.
She suffered from panic attacks prior to her stage performances and also bouts of depression.
But an accomplished actor and very fondly recalled as Miss Marple, Detective. |
