Which word do you find personally offensive and why?

None, swear words aren't offensive. The person saying it is.

Pretty much all words are fine, it's the intent with which they're said that can cause offence

Can't say there is one tbh, there all the same to me.

I think the problem is people choose for one to be worse than the others then people follow and be like yeah that's definitely the worst one like c*nt for example.

None. I can understand a dislike to words, but offended... Nah. Just words. Intent and context used behind the words is what gives them power.

Manchester (she/her)

It's largely context that makes words offensive. Although that includes cultural context - so it's probably good to be mindful of how words might land before using them.

For example, I got into an almighty flame war on another forum several years ago. Along with some other Australians and Brits, I argued that "bastard" isn't necessarily offensive - in my dialect it can mean "person" or even "friend". The Americans got pretty upset because obviously it's stigmatising unwed mothers and their children and the word should never be considered benign.

I went a bit but was more mindful going forward.

Any reference to ‘soft cheese’, I find offensive , if you were to put the word French in front of it then it would be a conversation stopper for me. These are the ultimate swear word in my opinion

Are they? I don't get offended by them. I call my friend fuck features as a term of endearment, she calls me other things. No offense from either of us and not a single hint of anger.

What you mean is "I find all swear words offensive". As you can clearly see there are many that don't take offense to them in the slightest, thus the word has lost power when used in their direction.

Makes me chuckle ,personally I don’t care if you’re offended.

It’s your choice haha

In certain parts of the country it's almost a term of endearment.

The threat title and the first post are asking two different questions that require two different answers.

I can't think of a single "swear word" that bothers me, except maybe through excessive repetition. I'm terrible for accidentally dropping F-bombs in "polite" company.

All the words I find offensive aren't swearing. Slurs and hate speech, generally.

If you're offended by anything it's your problem alone. It doesn't actually mean anything. The word should be removed from the English language

Depends on the context. I can be offensive without using a single expletive. You may not even realise until later..

With live in a society now that something is going to offend someone, so I don't give a shit if I offend someone because of what I say or believe in. That's their problem not mine!

I give a shit, I don't intentially want to offend anyone, if I know something will offend I will adjust (to a point) slightly to not offend. I won't however walk around on eggshells or put additional effort in on the off chance that somebody may find it offensive.

I'm considerate but I'am not responsible for "your" feelings.

There is a difference between being yourself and intentionally being an inconsiderate cunt just because - granted for some people the two overlap fully.
