After Minxie's latest adventure (and I use that word loosely!) I am now getting scared and frightened for my safety ...............
I came home in a police car ........ and whilst I might make light of it .. if the truth is known I am soooo sooo lucky it wasn't any other form of transport ........
Whilst driving (within legal speed limits - albeit top end of em) on a three lane road - my steering decided to go .................
Having survived wot happened next and I still don't know how I managed to miss everything else and the crash barrier - I end up straddling the inside lane ..... hazards flashing and facing the right way .............. with good visiability from behind .............
Do u think the buggers slowed down or noticed me there until the last minute ............. nope - called the AA who didnt wanna know cos they decided I was in a vulnerable and dangerous position (u dont say!!!) and told ME to call the police to get towed off .................
rang police who then rang AA and still the AA werent interested, nice policeman got angry with AA and arranged a recovery truck to get my car off the road .......
Car is now somewhere else in the county ?? I have to find it tomorrow - and nice policeman brought me home - a total of 2 hours sitting there terrified I was gonna get hit ..
U lot are lucky (or maybe not!!) that Minxie is still here ... |

"2 hours sat in the car in the middle of the road??"
inside lane 40 mins before police got to me and then he was with me for another 20 and rang it in to get their breakdown truck out and waiting for that one too .......... the only good thing was once the police were there at least he tried taking my mind off it |

no tiny little strip of hardshoulder with crash barrier next to it and sheer drop onto the railway the other side of the crash barrier so couldnt get out to safety either ........ was straddled over 2 thirds of a "live" lane ....... I know all the terminology now lol |

Gosh I remember how scarey that is
I was hit on the M1, just past the junction with the a38, years ago and gosh I was on the hard shoulder but got out of the car and scrambled up the grass bank.
Luckily another motorist had seen the collision and called the police, they towed my car off the M1 and I rode off in their car, admitted they only towed me off the M1 into a pub car park but I was so grateful. By the time I'd got into the cop car I was a wreck and they didnt even expect me to try and control the car, but they rang the RAC for me, and the RAC turned up before the police had finished with my documents
Even now if I drive down past that spot it makes me cringe. I never knew how loud and fast a motorway is before
Put your feet up, chill and thank your angel x |

as an ex recovery driver for the RAC you should have gone to the top of the priority list for a recovery, single lady alone and in dangerous position,
we had a target of 20 mins from getting a call to being on site and recovering the car and driver.
just glad your safe and OK when you cool down I would get on to them and find out why you were left in such a position |

You should send a very strongly worded letter of complaint to the AA (along with a statement by the police officer) and demand action. At the very least you should demand your membership fee back.
To leave you there for two hours is shocking. |

Glad your ok. Sounds like a stressful position to be left in. Glass of wine and some chocolate could be a good nights cure before spending the day tomorrow letting them have it.
Remind me again who used to call themselves the forth emergency service (with total disregard for the coatguard obviously)

just check the terms of your cover first. It might mention in there about not putting their employees in dangerous situations. Despite their advertising campaign, they are not an emergency service and they have a duty of care to their employees.
Also check level of cover. i broke down on the M25 but wasnt covered for more than a tow off the motorway. it cost me £90 to get the cover uped as i was in an emergency situatio so needed immediate cover and was towed to my nans in Dagenham |

there seriously was no-where to go - fall down a sheer embankment through the trees to the railway line or sit in car worried ........ I chose the worried as opposed to impaling myself on a tree or getting squashed by a train |

I dont know about the AA's training but we were trained to get the customer to safety first i.e in cab of the truck then recover the car safely.
The police were there so there should have been minimal risk if the job was approached correctly and professionally
