Quiz frolics or verbal abuse?

I was at a speed quiz last night. Now I enjoy pub quizzes and like speed quizzes as less opportunity to cheat. I was one of the oldest and soberest there as the quiz attracts a lot of younger people out to enjoy themselves. Nothing wrong with that.

In the last round the team that answers first can take points off another team or take points themselves. The latter is frowned upon and if it happens, the quiz master encourages everyone else to call the team various names from wankxx to cxxx to noxxx depending on how many times they take points.

I seem to be one of the few in the pub who finds this awkward and don't know if it's just being older and being sober. The regulars that go know what to expect and happily join in.

Is this just an age thing or how would you feel?

I wouldn't like it and I don't think I'd have enjoyed it when I was younger. I'm not a big fan of verbal abuse and I'd wonder how many of the people 'enjoying' it actually were.

I suppose if they didn't like it they wouldn't go but peer pressure can be quite effective

"What was your quiz name?"

Not sure that has any relevance but we change the name most times we go. Most team names are very on the edge or based on local news.

"What was your quiz name?"

I usually go for something to demonstrate my intelligence and intellect.

Like 'quiz on my face' or 'my couch pulls out but I don't'

So what was your quiz name last night? There's no relevance - I'm just curious.

I really dislike this 'roasting' trend that's around. It's very odd and bordering (is!) on self-masochism. We are in times of extremes & everything in-between now though and it'll pass as with most things. Simply a case of biting your tongue and letting them get on with it

I was listening to a podcast a few days ago with three fairly famous comedians. They were calling each other all sorts of horrible names and laughing their heads off.

I just found it very odd, laddish behaviour. So maybe it is an old, sober person's opinion. However I've never greeted my women friends with "hello you fat old bitch" or consoled them on a loss with "ya ugly loser"

Most of my mates are bordering on our fifties- we still play a card game where the looser each time is given an insulting name- same as the last 30 odd years. You can also collect names if you’re really shit, so when someone plays the trigger card, everyone else shouts out that persons current name stash- eg fugly bollocks - limp dick -donkey fucker. (Men and women btw)

Juvenile? Maybe!

Hilarious when half d*unk and you can’t remember who is what? Definitely!

Amongst a group of friends is one thing but encouraging the use of what some could see as sexually offensive terme in a pub is something else, well to me anyway
