Haters as you wrongly put it are people that won't give attention seekers the attention they seek or call a man a woman etc.

You sadly just attack with 'haters' as its all you have as you know you are deceiving yourself but like all the woke crowd live in denial.

'Fashion' is all bollocks anyway. The 'best and worse' dressed articles are always tripe. One week they say X looks good then the next week X looks bad.

It's all about who wears it and how much the fashion reviewer is getting paid.

Yes, 'THEM'...is the correct term for them. Sam Smith identifies as non-binary. So the correct pronouns to use are they or them.

Don't care really, don't have any interest in media darlings seeking attention for attentions sake. But that's the game, no? Talk about the outfit or the pronouns rather than the standard of works they're producing.

I lost respect when it was reported that they were demanding/forcing everyone around them to declare and display their own pronouns too.

If it's true, that's a step too far and totally wrong.

It would potentially either publically out a person or force them to deny their identity over and over, causing them untold additional misery.

I never saw a retraction or denial of the news articles but perhaps it was reversed later if inaccurate.

Imagine his (I'm calling the man, Sam Smith a he in this thread) influence he's having on the younger generation. Kids growing up not knowing or wanting to change their identity. Is that right!? What happened to men being men, and women being women? Who decided they can become whatever they like? It's absolutely ludicrous. Would you be happy if he was your next door neighbour? Imagine him flouncing around in lingerie dry humping guys on his front lawn in front of kids...guess that's fine, he's a musician he can do as he pleases. Come on. He's a disgrace, but that's my personal opinion. I can't be wrong, because it's what I believe. I do think a lot of people on here are just saying what they think other people want to read.

YES! Sam Smith is more than welcome to love next door and dry hump whatever the f they want to! That is the whole point!

People like you have been trying to ban everything since the dawn of time. Go and join the Puritans or something. "Who decided"? Well, obviously you and people like you decided that you should control what other people wear and think. Not how it works though. Who decided that you can go on this immoral website spreading sinful living and fornicators? Well, you did, probably. What if someone said you can't. Did people on here become swingers because they saw swingers dry humping on the lawn? Or was it, by any chance, a choice freely made by them to do something that they want to do?

So take a chill pill, Cromwell, Christmas is still on, your life goes on, even with trans, LGBTQ+, non-binary, queers, drag, and whatever else gets you above 170/120, doing exactly what they want to do with their lives, just as you are free to live yours.

Come on, this isn't the first time a pop star has worn something a bit unusual (maybe this chicken inspired suit was a nod to Lady Gagas meat dress?).

I'm not sure it's necessarily the first choice of what they would wear day to day (looking at most of the costumes on show at the Brits there are few that are "everyday" clothes, Wet Leg looked the most "normal" IMO) but should we judge their lives based on that one decision?

They did something that might have just been a publicity stunt, which obviously worked as we're all talking about it. If they were wearing it whilst shopping in Waitrose then that would be a different matter I guess!

You are very ignorant. Surely this is what all gay men do, isnt it??

If they aren't flouncing, they are mincing or floating about in lingerie.

And its well known they dry hump men on the front lawn. The poor Amazon delivery drivers have to be so careful.

Although the more reserved ones prefer the back garden or a balcony.

And as for Sam Smiths costume last night?

Clearly they were being lazy, and just threw on what they'd been wearing the night before while flouncing at home.

"Firstly, Sam smith uses the pronoun ‘they’ not ‘he/him’ Secondly, let them do what they want, we were not all taught “if you’ve got nothing nice to say don’t say anything at all”

Mrs

We were asked our personal opinion. Are we not allowed to say how we personally feel about it/they/them/pillow case whatever they fancy calling themselves? Or can we only post on here if we support the circus clown he/she/it/them/they/racing car has become?

You can comment but you should maybe have a think about what it is about someone being themselves that makes you so angry.

Those heckin flouncers dry humping each other all over the lawn, what are they like hey

Give the curtain twitchers something to stare at - 'Ethel, those flouncers are dry humping on the lawn again, I'll get the watergun'

Sorry but that is ridiculous.

They can wear what they want so long as their groin areas are suitably covered (I apply this to thought to all men and women). Harry wears what he wants, why can’t Sam?

I quite like flamboyant dressers.

I used to like his music, then the pronoun stuff started and I swiftly went off him as a person.

To be clear, I have absolutely no problem with gay people or people going through their transition to become a man/woman.

But I do have an issue with people deciding that genders are a social construct and therefore won't be labelled by them.... Time, money and borders are also social constructs, but you're sticking to those aren't you Sam?

"Some people on multiple profiles here?

As in body to body or fake profiles?

Fake profiles, just weird the comments above someone answering like was them that said the first statement when it was a bloke, this is fab but live and let live "

If you’re referring to me, I am not a ‘fake’ profile, and this is my only profile.

I could see the origin of the original message was not anger, but pronoun related. I hope this clears things up for you.

I’m thinking Bowie, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Madonna, Britney Spears, Marilyn Manson.

I went to bed early so I missed Sam's appearances. Had a quick google and I think I can see two different outfits... both look fab, and I would assume the choices were curated to cause discussion. So fair play to them and their team of stylists!

"We're thinking he's expressing his true self.

Fwiw, I'm happy for them.

Haters will always hate.

"THEM", were there more than one."

Just saying, "them" can be used to refer to a singular person.

For example:

Hey, John. The new employee just arrived downstairs.

Great, tell THEM I'll be down in a minute...

I saw a brief clip from his new video and to be honest, it was overtly sexual and fairly disgusting.

Im not sure why hes decided to go down this route now, surely he would much rather be taken seriously as a singer than just a circus act seeking attention?

Or is this the route he has to go now that hes come out as whatever he is? Does it all have to be sexual now?

...and im sure im not the only one who has concerns about any visits to the loo.

If they had a dodgy biryani the night before, there's no way they're getting into a cubicle in that get up.

However, i have been previously reliably informed by a mates sibling who works within the industry, a lot of the stars who wear outrageous costumes, will actually get changed once inside the venue.

So SS would've only worn that outfit for the 'red carpet'. Then changed into their second outfit before sitting down at their table.

I think he tried to fill his boots but it wouldn't go past the knees.

It puts me in mind of Billy Connolly's joke about the incontinence wear.

I really can't believe the media reportage of it as if it's shocking! It might be in contrast to the rest of the blandness that popstars have become, but if you look back over the last 50 years it's nothing particularly shocking. He could do with style lessons from Lady Gaga though. He's not really playing to his strengths.

Those heckin flouncers dry humping each other all over the lawn, what are they like hey

Give the curtain twitchers something to stare at - 'Ethel, those flouncers are dry humping on the lawn again, I'll get the watergun'

Sorry but that is ridiculous.

Don't you just love how non judgemental and inclusive and accepting us swingers are....Oh I forgot, some of us aren't swingers are We..

Is it just gay men who flounce about dry humping in the garden?? Or is it anyones game???

It really is a PR thing. A huge team of people trained to come up with this stuff. And perfectly executed proof right here.

It may be an expression of self to Sam to an extent, but the over the top stuff is most certainly all about grabbing the attention because the music alone is not cutting it these days.

He's not really playing to his strengths."

Sam Smith does nothing for me. Their music isn’t my thing, the way they dress I actually think looks funny. But that’s fine. If I don’t like it it’s not for me and I move. They’re doing no harm. Madonna has been pulling this shit for years to stay in the spotlight and she gets praised for it. Let Sam have their moment

Just saying, "them" can be used to refer to a singular person.

For example:

Hey, John. The new employee just arrived downstairs.

Great, tell THEM I'll be down in a minute...

"

I love how Sam just expresses themselves...there's something about them that I find so attractive. That look in their eyes and the way they move their body. And the song Unholy is so sexy

I’m a really opinionated person, I have strong views on many many things. And I’m 100% entitled to those opinions, as is everyone else.

As I decent person though I understand that sometimes my views don’t need to be shared if they would be disrespectful to someone else.

I have no perspective on what it’s like to feel like the pronouns assigned to me at birth aren’t right for me. But do I presume that just because I don’t have that issue, that it doesn’t exist? No, because I understand that not everyone is the same. So I use the pronouns, because I’m a respectful person.

If we all told everyone what we thought about everything all of the time, the world would be a very shitty place.

Of course you're allowed an opinion. This thread is full of them. You can disagree with someone's choice of pronouns, but it shows a lack of respect deliberately not to use them. And calling anyone "it" is unpleasant...in my opinion."

I dont think it's disrespectful. I think its disrespectful to try and shame someone into misusing that pronoun.

They/them relates to plural, not singular. Its not disrespectful to recognise that

Having an opinion does not protect it from being challenged. And that works both ways, all sides and opinions are open to and should always be vulnerable to being challenged.

But theres a difference between showing common day tact, which most of us do, and feeling one has to use something thats just blatantaly incorrect.

And you werent assigned pronouns at birth. You were born female so the female pronouns are used for you as a matter of common sense

I assume that reason you have that perspective is because you’re happy with the pronouns people use for you (how you describe them being assigned or not is just semantics - you know what I mean).

But I’m not sure why you think you get to determine how another wants to be addressed? Why is your opinion about them more important than theirs? If it bothers you so much why don’t you just not address them at all. The fact that you’re pushing so hard on this repeatedly, jars with your statement about common day tact.

Im not pushing hard at all, im just engaging in a discussion. Should i not contribute so if i dont agree with the party line?

Im not determining how anyone wants to address or putting myself above them. In a hierarchy, as you seem to be suggesting.

Im a man, therefore the english language dictates i am referred to in the third person as him or he. These are just the rules of language, and without such rules, language becomes a garbled mess.

Someone can asked to be referred to something else if they want, but refusing to do that isnt the problem. Thats just abiding rules of the english language
